  5. sorry dnot understand afrikaans. There is ongoing debate as to what role technology should play in the classroom. The concerns become ever greater when researchers discuss early childhood education. There is a clear mandate from the education community to question what technologies get made and how they are used with children. At the same time, technologists need to question what educational strategies their teaching tools promote. Today there is an emphasis placed on learning models that support the active construction of knowledge and skills. There has been a shift from educational environments which support the passive acquisition of isolated facts, to environments in which the learner actively explores the world and constructs their own internal models of understanding. From an early age, children physically explore by building with blocks, digging in sandboxes, and drawing new ideas. Activities such as these support the development of skills which include: creative problem-solving, collaborative learning, expressive design, and conceptual abstraction.

  6. ...T... emphasizes the use of activities children perform at an early age in order to build skills for the future. but in a world that is changing so fast, does the activities we once performed as a child still stand in today's world? technologies in the classroom need to keep up to date with the world. however, these technologies need to protect children from some of the outside influyences that are so easily accessed. technologies can play a huge role in the development and learning of children, but may also have negative affects on learners.

  7. Technology is a very important tool to be used in the classroom of the future. In everything that we engage ourselves with these days needs technology. The fact that students of these days communicate too much on the net, these may help also in the classroom.Students may use their cellphones to send emails and instant messages to interact with each other when given work to do.

  8. The traditional definition of literacy is the ability to read and write. With the rapid development of new technologies, the nature of literacy is undergoing a rapid metamorphosis. Thus in addition to reading and writing, the current definition of literacy also includes the ability to learn, comprehend, and interact with technology in a meaningful way (Coiro, 2003).......However this is possible because of technology that is the main factor that promotes development. Enable us to communicate, to learn or to teach easy……….malepe DB

  9. that will be the good point and it can reduce our attendence in the varsity

  10. The use of information and communication technology (ICT) such as Internet applications, CD-ROMs, video technology and various computer attachments and software programs have caused many changes in society. they can even create a lifelong learning into learners because they become familiar to workplace tools such as computers and others that are used in workplace. since we have different kind of learners in the classroom, then by implimenting ict in schools will help those who cannot learn through what only the teacher taught but even vissually can cause them to have a deep learning of what they are taught. However, the impact on education may just beginning to be felt as teachers integrate this new technology into their teaching, this were

  11. Winnie,i definately have to agree with you. At the rate we are going, there will come a time when the teaching format used today is irrelevent to education. We are the generation of educators that need to go that extra mile to ensure that the work we do is not for nothing. You are on point!!!

  12. Well, this module is very important in way that we have to take Technology and its application very seriously.

Well; the chapters teaches us about learning space for which we understand the topic differetly but it is important to acknowledge people's opinions.

    Keep well.

  13. I also think that educational technology tools in the classroom are a very good idea because the 21century is all about information technology and getting fast information readily avaliable in society. The computer with internet will just improve and broaden learners knowledge of learning and education immensly in future. This will also help learners by using for example the internet, Google Chats, Mxit, Facebook, etc to learn our other children or their peers see differrent learning scenarios that need to be learned and understand.

  14. Technology in the class is very important for the effective of learning and teaching in the classroom. however, one can disagree with this and argue that it is unfair since the resources in schools are still not the same therefore, the promotion of technology in classroom can hence disadvantaged some other learners especially in rural areas

    ReplyDelete
  15. the use of technology in the classroom ,it is very important for learners to upgrade ther standard of living because everything that is happening in our world is about the use of technology for instance computers and so on

  16. In todays life technology is part of the the everyday ritual. So in the classroom it is important for the educaters to incorpurate technology, as learners no longer rely on text books to teach them new this but rather on the internet and sites found on it. They also make use of things like blogging, where they see different opinions of different cultures all over the world.

Technology is such a big part of our lifes that I do not think it is possible for learners of today to imagine their lifes without it.

Technology also help the learners with learning disabilities as for example computers help dislexic learners to consentrate, and hence the problem of reading. So these learners can no also do beter in exams and in ordinary class assignments.

Teaching with technology also gives an advantage to the teacher as they can now stay up to date with what is going on in the world of the teenager and the problems that can be found amoungs them.

  17. each and every thing we do requres technology, i think having technology in school helps us engage in lot of things we wouldn't be doing this module if it was not of technology,it makes things easy for all of us.so we must continue ibntroducing it in all schools and learner from young age.

  18. technology in a classroom can be of vital importance but to a certain extend it will replace the traditional ways of teaching in a classroom which is not bad but when it comes to finding research learners will forget the old way of going to the library and physically looking for the books. my point is lets not scrape off the traditional way of teaching just because of technology but integrate technology with the traditional ways of teaching. this way learners can reap the benefits of traditional and modern ways of teaching and learning at the same time. the benefits of technology in a classroom are huge and can all be linked to modern life that learners can relate to, which is key.

  19. ICT’S IN SCHOOLS OF THE FUTURE
I think that ICT’S are great and they would make learning very easy only if they are used correctly. As much as technology is taking over, learners should still be taught the importance of learning and reading in a library.
First the schools should make sure that technology is not used a lot because it can affect the socialization skills of the learners, by this I mean that learners might end up not being able to communicate with other people face to face. An example of this is mxit users most of them seem like they find solace in mxit and they don’t have any “real” friends.
Some activities in the class room should not involve technology in that way learners will not be totally dependent on technology and they will learn to be resourceful.
Since educators are also a factor in this they should also be adequately trained on how to use computers and technology, because the last thing that should happen is for an educator to not know how to best use an object that is enforced on learners.
As much as I like technology part of me does not understand why learning should be simplified so much. How will a learner be able to spell if MS word is correcting his or her spelling mistakes? Also how will the educator know if the learner has learned all the basics that they need to know with Google around? Personally I think that computers might ruin the nation instead of helping it and conformity is good to a certain extent. Lastly the dream of a completely ICTized school is good but still we seem to forget that technology changes every single day so how will we really tackle the challenges of an everyday changing world? Will the school change every time something new comes?
All in all I think that technology is good and it should be used to a certain limit and before we start conforming too much we should think about all the problems that might come with technology.

  22. Our current students are exposed to technology more and more everyday. Technology has influenced learners in a big way. Using technology in the classroom is a wise way of teaching and facilitating learning because it makes the content to be learned more realistic and because learners are familiar it they are able to relate.

  23. Dear Jacky
Do you think that if learners do not go to libraries are embracing the formation of Technology in their lives abd forget about the traditional way?
I think you rather agree that both "traditional" and Technology are integrated since if one goes to library obvisioulsy research will take place ku le ndao.

  24. Dear Busi
I do agree with you 101%
It is amazing the way Technology in education is in use. Look the chapters that we read so far tells us about the technological devices that students have no fear to carry along.

And we can witness that because Almost everyday we are carrying cell phones.

  25. technology is playing major role in everyone lifes because it improve our standard of living as we are livivg in 21century everything demand computer,as you can see this day we cant live without cellphone

  26. Overall, children can benefit from computers if they are used wisely. Parents that supervise their children when they are on the computer can ensure that everything is happening safely.

    ReplyDelete
  27. From the fact that, todays youngsters are more interested in technologies it would really make sense to introduce educational technologies as it will generate their interest in learning.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ICT's should be used with a purpose of stimulating students mind,by encouraging more practical computer work than theorical work.In that way students can enhance their own creativity and stimulate their own abilities while learning.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I do believe that technology tools should be integrated to support learning. This is done when learners can type their own given assignments, through typing the assignment they are finishing task while gaining typing skills.Technology supports learning by allowing teachers to present their lesson using transparences and that saves them time compared to writing on the chalkboard.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The most advantage of incorporating ICT's in classroom of the future is that it enables data access.Students has no limitation to access the information.Students may use internet to look for beyound information about the topic they did in class.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i think technology is good but learners don't need to have their cell phones on them all the time sometimes a break from them is good.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The 21st century isn't coming - its here, then the teachers will be not be replaced by technology but teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by those who do.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Technology can also enhance the opportunities for communication and community within education. E-mail is a wonderful alternative to phone tag and a useful supplement to office hours. Chat, mailing lists, and online discussion groups encourage voices and perspectives that may not emerge in the classroom. Plus, the Internet expands opportunities for students and faculty to create a community. Students can use e-mail to send direct questions to the authors of materials they read in class. Faculty can develop and maintain professional relationships with colleagues across the state, the nation, or almost anywhere in the world.

Finally, in addition to offering new kinds of learning experiences, the Internet and World Wide Web offer access to postsecondary educational opportunities for new types of students and new kinds of institutional clientele. We are still in the early stages of an explosion in technology-assisted distance learning. Campuses and corporations will be competing for an audience.

  34. We need to be honest about the gap between aspirations and performance. And being honest requires that we acknowledge we don’t yet have clear, compelling evidence about the impact of information technology on student learning and educational outcomes. But there is viable evidence about the impact of technology as it relates to many of the process and experiential aspects of teaching, learning, and instruction. Perhaps the best review of these issues is by Robert Kozma and Jerome Johnson in their 1992 paper “The Technology Revolution Comes to the Classroom.” Their work is based on a well-designed assessment of the use of instructional technology in colleges and universities, across several disciplines and across different types of campuses. Although their paper precedes the Internet and World Wide Web by several years, the key IT-driven process and experiential issues Kozma and Johnson identify are absolutely at the core of what information technology can and does bring to the educational experience—engagement, exploration, real-world simulation, opportunities to explore the meaning of data, and opportunities to move from simple exposure to real mastery of concepts and skills.

  35. Dear Refiloe
I am sorry that I Have to let you know that I don't agree with you with regards teachers who don't know how to use Technology should 'rest' and give a space to new teachers.

In this context I WILL disagree because apparently the teachers are enrolling with several universities, for example, they do Computer Skills with us and ICT.

The purpose for this is to empower them with neccassary skills and knowledge.

And of course they are funded by the GDE.

  36. Ek stem saam mat Trisha. Karino.AKA.Tanya

  37. Before starting, I think that UJ needs to look at implementing Information Commons here on campus. I think it is a brilliant and different way of studying and looking at tasks to complete.

what I could understand from the readings, is that everything is aimed at collaborations between learners/students. This may be hard for some schools to do as they do not always have the facilities to accommodate such collaborations. Taking into accout that we are looking at how ICT's should be used in the schools of the future, I will assume that schools have equal opportunities when implementing educational technologies.

Imagine each classroom equipped with a desktop computer with internet and printing, projectors and whiteboards. This may be far stretched but think of this:
An EMS class is working on an assignment on forms of ownership and business plans. Groups are formed where members decide on a business and then formulate their business plan. A learner in group 1 does not understand the concept of how profits are distributed among partners, so someone heads to the whiteboard and explains. Group 3 has decided that they want to break away from the 'norm' and change their business plan into a presentation which they will use to get their ideas across. Using the computer they put together their presentation and plan to use the projector to present the assignment.

Just by putting these educational technologies into the equation, learners were able to look at the assignment differently.

  38. Refiloe said, "The 21st century isn't coming - its here, then the teachers will not be replaced by technology but teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by those who do". I have to agree with this statement. Teachers who do not engage and keep up with the latest trends will be left behind. In my opinion, educational technologies makes learning so much more fun and valuable, as learners do not just sit in class and have a teacher read information to them, they engage with the data that they use.

Onicke Coetzee

  41. YES i agree with you technology makes things easier for students, jst imagine if there were no computers, overhead projectors and printing machines how education was gonna be like. education was gonna be a slow process, i.e. writing instead of typing, books and other media's instead of internet. so technology make education easier. i strongly agree with u in that point

  42. I agree wth Hlengiwe that technilogy has a great impact in our lives and especially in educational. Having cellphones in our pockets makes the whole process of living easier and faster and the quality of how we learn.when im aroundthe campus i can easily send an sms,e-mail or communicate(chatting)to someone about the deatails of a particular subject.

  43. i also agree with you mak, technologies makes our lives easiar, we have gpr in our cell phones where we can access internet and edulink find any information you need.you can also communicate with lectures and fellow students, discusing something using google chat or facebook, blogs etc.educationa technologies should be promoted.educational technologies also reduce time of sitting in the classroom, listening to boring lecture for 2-3 hours and qeuws to the faculty or lecture office, looking for information.but by the use of educational technologies our lives are easy.

  44. we are not saying that we replace the space of teachers with educational technologies,we cannot do that,we still need mediators and facilitator to guide the learners on how to use them.we cannot educational technologies to do everything even useless things, but for lessons and we need someone who can facilitate that lesson using educational technologies.

  46. Since we live in the world that have many problems and continuously change overtime, the purpose of education is to solve these problems; therefore education should continuously change too in respond to arising world changes and problems. Technology is the main weapon to fight the challenges of educational change. In this case I will explain how Information Communication Technologies (ICT) should be used in schools of the future.
Implicit to the statement above is the integration of traditional and technological way of teaching and learning. The environment shapes the way of learning, therefore for future schools the environment of learning should cover and support all users (learners), overcome their learning barriers and mix informal and academic activities. The environment should also address the needs of learners for bringing technology, content and service in a physical space. Future schools should have computer labs with writing centres, group study rooms for discussion, screens and computer projectors so that learners can practice their presentations and cafes with food and drinks. For example, university of Minnesota as cited in learning space by Diana G. Oblinger, opened its information commons as a result of focus groups with students who wanted one place where they can research and write their papers with librarians, writing tutors and computers assistants all there, the library, computer and writing centre all supports that.
ICT extends well past the traditional use of students learning to use software on computers to the use of interactive presentations using touch-sensitive whiteboards, specialist devices like data loggers for the collection of data in science lessons, email-based applications to support learning communities and links between schools.
Educators must also be creative, they can create web sites and web blogs which will serve as centres or locations for learners to ask question, post commends about their subjects content and understanding and reading responses, this will enhance communication between learners themselves and teachers. Using internet and emails to remind learners about their academic work while they are at their homes will also enhance learning.
Video cameras and DVD’s can also be used by schools of our future schools to make learning an easy process, for example, instead of writing everything on the board we can use cameras to make video presentations.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Information Communication Technology in schools can enhance opportunities for inclusive learning in future, by bringing together technology, content and service. Learning spaces such as library and the institution itself must be attractive to learners and their facilitators. Computers must be enough and available in a place where it can be accessible for all learners as well as space for their own personal computer wireless access. Routine upgrades and maintenance must be considered to make this idea of ict successful.
ICT in future schools can be used to promote collaboration and interactions between the institutions and make sure we do all things we could not do before we had implemented ict. Educators should be flexible and creative when dealing with technology oriented facilities; they need to change with technology. Learners need to be comfortable so that learning can occur without any distractions, because if anyone is comfortable is easier to focus. All forms of technology should support the human interaction they should not become the centrepiece of the space and this technology tools must be located where learners feel more empowered and most comfortable.

Space must be configured for the use of small groups, reflecting learners, collaborative learning and combining social interaction. The should be a furniture built to accommodate several people using one computer and comfortable upholstered furniture to encourage informal meetings with a computer and screen, so that learners can work efficiently on projects. Learners must a classroom where they can rehearse their presentations in a room that is set up with a podium, computer projector, screen, printer and digital content which will assist individuals with a broad range of expertise and a place in which all these things are available. Educators need to keep abreast of the latest ICT developments and echoed the need for teachers to be brought up to speed on new technology.

  48. Lefu i agree with you when you say ICT can be used as a collaborative learning and interactive learning tool infuture schools. This can be achived when educators are well trained to be able to incoporate ICT in teaching and also relating it with the outcomes of the curriculum.ICT can promote authentic learning as you know that students also learn best by adabting the information from reading and implimenting this can be well learnt by bring reality in the classroom and practice, thefore ICT implementation can be a best tool for promoting learning collaboration and interaction, for example students using a software to communite and share ideas by sending emails to each other ect. so sir check my post on how should ICTs be used in the schools of the future? and how can we enhance learning ICT learning environment.

    ReplyDelete
  49. With Technology rapidly evolving everyday, we as educators of the future need to take advantage of Information Communication technologies (ICT) available to us to broaden the minds of our learners and us as educators, enhance learning experiences and better the learning environment in our classrooms.

Diana G. Oblinger speaks of "information commons" in her e-book on learning spaces and how "information commons have drawn students by offering environments that address their needs, bringing together technology, content, and services in a physical space that results in an environment different from that of a typical library". Although Oblinger speaks of the new age libraries of the future as information commons I think that we can take from her idea and incorporate this notion of information commons and learner commons into our schools and particularly our classrooms.

We can strive to incorporate computers, projectors, smart boards etc. into our classes to encourage formal and informal learning. By doing this our lessons will be more interactive in lessons with the use of diagrams, videos, DVD's, internet sources etc. on touch-sensitive white boards. We as educators of the future can create web-sites and blogs on different themes in our learning area for the learners to comment on, ask questions and in this way encourage communication between learners and educators and visa versa.

When speaking of ICT's in classrooms in this sense it seems quite unrealistic in most classrooms in South Africa. However we are the educators of the future and realise the great impact ICT's can have on our teaching so we need to strive towards this knowing the great influence it can have on our learners, the learning environment and the learning experiences we create.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with Liesl, who stated above that our university should implement information commons. This will be very beneficial for all students and encourage more collaboration between students which is a neccessity for any interactions in any workplace.

    ReplyDelete
  51. We as educators have to strive to change and improve our classrooms at all times. Since technology is continuously changing we need to take advantage of using ICTs in our classroom.

These can be included in our classroom by using computers, smart boards, projectors, wireless internet and allowing learners to bring their lap tops to schools. To achieve this you also have to have a more open classroom that allows for discussions and debates. This can be done by arranging your desks in u shapes so that the learners can feel more involved and always ensure your furniture is flexible.

Another way to use ICTs in schools is that you could make the libraries more welcoming and allow more discussion in them. For example you could have areas where people could have group study sessions and group computer sessions. These areas where this will be done should have comfy couches and round tables; they could even have smart boards so that learners can teach each other on them.

Trying to attain all this technology in schools could be a problem as many schools don’t have the money to afford it. I think that schools could have fundraisers such as raffles, golf days, fashions shows etc to raise the money needed. Schools could even approach businesses for donations of technology and then offer the companies free advertising in return.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree with what Lefu has said. Lefu stated that ICTs can enhance opportunities for inclusive learning in the future, I agree with this because anyone can use technology whether they disabled or have a learning disability there is technology out there that can assist them as well. I also agree with him and think that teachers should change their classrooms as technology changes. Furthermore with regards to classrooms and spaces in which the technology will be placed, it should be open and flexible and in areas where learners feel comfortable.

“People are at the center of learning”.

  57. I believe that ICT's can be very useful in the classroom of the future. It will enable us to include all types of learners in our schools. Even the language barrier can be overcome through the use of ICT’s. For example, the use of the translating tool in Google can make information accessible to all learners.

The rapid advances made in technology calls not only for the redesign of learning spaces but also for a whole new way of teaching. The teacher can no longer stand in the front of the classroom to transmit information to the receiving learners. The use of technology in classrooms demands a more learner-centered approach to teaching than what we are currently implementing in our schools. For instance, what would be the point of using the Internet in class unless the learner is able to do his/her own research at his/her own pace?

Furthermore, the learner of the future will not grow up in isolation; the very existence of technology will accustom this learner to being in constant contact with others, whether they are physically present or not. Thus ICT's will guide us towards a more constructivistic approach, which also calls for more collaborative learning. Learners should be able to work in groups and to bounce ideas of each other while using technology. This can be facilitated through the use of chat rooms or physical seating areas that encourages collaboration and talking.

This can be achieved by introducing smart boards, wireless connectivity, laptops, projector, LCD screens and many other types of technology into the classroom. However, the design of our classrooms must allow for flexibility and collaboration. Thus the layout must change in order to accommodate the new approach that accompanies ICT’s in the classroom. Therefore a lot of planning and thought must go into these upgrades before their implementation is attempted.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I do agree with Carey-Anne in regards to rearranging classroom furniture and making libraries user-friendlier. Learners need to be engaged with learning and that cannot happen unless we grab their attention. A technology-oriented generation is unlikely to pay attention to traditional teaching methods and the use ICT’s in the modern classroom may be the only way to engage them.

However, I think that the matter of funding is far more complex than just a few fundraisers and donations. If it were that simple then we would not have a single under-resourced classroom or school in our current education system. Our previous assignment clearly indicated the high cost of implementing technology into schools. I believe that the government should shoulder most of the financial responsibility for these upgrades.

  59. Firstly, information common is any space that supports the academic mission. Such a space can be created by renovating the school environment into a conducive learning and teaching space. That is, the space outside the classrooms in the school yard must be modified to enhance learning that is activity based. The notion or rationale is that the space must also be properly designed, implemented and operated with the idea of enhancing the learning. Therefore, creativity in implementing technological artefacts at school is important and it will depend on the situation of the school because schools in rural areas can not be compared with the ones in the urban areas.
Under the trees, there must be portable chairs placed around the tables for social interaction and collaboration. Preferably, attractive plastic chairs for relaxing, effective communication, exploration and creativity; they must be available for informal learning in different specialties. These facilities must be designed to be available even after school or during breaks because learners spend most of their times outside the formal classroom session. In other words, a school must be modified into a safe and suitable learning environment where the society is able to access and have a say.
Some classrooms must be modified for different learning purposes like searching for information, writing assignments and group discussions. Learning materials, facilities and learners as tutors can play a major role in enhancing learning. Teachers need to go for short courses in order enrich their mediating skills in informal learning. For example, tutor learners can be responsible in mediating learning in a media lab (modified classroom) where learners are busy drawing charts, or building models. Please note that tutors need basic training.
Whether in classroom or in passages, there must be places where learners are not restricted to talk, eat or use their laptops while learning. Situation analysis must be done in order to discover the needs of learners and the available resources that can be used to renovate a particular school to meet the needs of the society.

  60. Promoting effective educational technologies

The implementation of educational technology in the learning centres , should involve the awareness that spaces influences attitudes about education. T herefore, the design should provide an environment for learners to collaborate with other s and multitask. Planners need to clearly understand what types of activities teachers and learners will engage in and also what service will be needed to support those activities. Well-design space and technology will allow the pace and style of information delivery to change and support multiple learning or teaching and people.
Learners prefer conditions where they feel most empowered and most comfortable. In places they see the best support for their way of working , and knowing they can move through material and concepts on their terms. The mix of desk-style furniture and soft, comfortable seating is desirable . Furniture that allows privacy for small groups while providing the means for people to see above. The computer centre as a facility should feature different types of space,- for individual work , group work, class and distance work. Because of the diversity of human sizes, tables and chairs should be adjustable. The facility had to accommodation noise , since conversation is a foundation of collaboration. Technology tools should support human interaction ; they should not become the centrepiece of the space. Learning centres have furniture built to accommodate several people sharing a computer and providing large tables where several learners can use their laptops while working together.
Technology can serve a good purpose in teaching and learning only when it stimulates interest on both teachers and learners . When we consider current educational facilities such as schools , libraries , we notice the restriction of technological arrangement which encourage collaboration. Learners are not really given freedom to access technology resources whenever they want and to have snacks while using the resources. The atmosphere around should be human centred whereby seating areas with upholstered furniture to promote informal meeting , cafe’s with food and drink to keep learners comfortable and free. The group study rooms , often with a computer and screen , so learners can work together efficiently on projects.

Is daar byvoorbeeld elektrisiteit? Sal die rekenaars prakties in die spesifieke skool wees? Is daar goeie sekuriteit?

  64. Charles, i agree with u, renovating a classroom into a conducive learning and teaching space will enhance the educational success of learners. Learning is a social process, I fully agree that learners should not be restricted to talk, eat or use their laptops while learning

Is daar enige vorm van Tegnologie betrokke by hierdie skool, indien ja, identifiseer hulle?

  68. Many developing countries have embarked upon – and others are seriously considering – large-scale roll-outs of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in their education sector. Similar processes began in most OECD countries 10-20 years ago, in many middle income countries more recently. Structurally, education systems organize themselves in various ways to fund, implement and oversee these sorts of initiatives, which are typically quite expensive – and complex – and the related organizations evolve, in ways incremental and radical, over time.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well said, Sir Thina. I agree with you that the world and its needs are ever changing in such a way that education is also changing. Of course, the syllabus must comply with what is happening currently. This means that the way we teach and the content that we teach must help learners to solve modern problems that are affecting us.
We can never define technology if the definition that has nothing to do with renovation, improvement or a change. The articles of Lippincott, Cattier and Gee have one thing in common, that is, conceptualisation. It is difficult to go through the process of conceptual change because we need to be convinced that we are changing to something new that is going to beneficial. There is no one who wants to waste time and possessions in doing something for nothing.
We know that it is not easy to all the schools to afford technological artefacts, but creativity like you have said before can take us there. For instance, cellular phones are not yet directly designed for learning but we can use them for mathematical operations and as a communication media in learning. Learners can communicate a topic by using messages but that is costly. We do not have to buy every thing that we need if we have welcomed technology in our schools be it is there to help us to solve problems. For example, we can cut wood and grass to make comfortable tables and chairs that even the tourists can want to come and take photos at our schools.
Going back to learning barriers, you have mentioned an important point. There are many learning barriers but we may take the computing barrier as an example. By creatively using technical artefacts, instead of making learners to play cards that may not be available at that moment stones can be used to play a game called “mrabaraba” instead. “Mrabaraba” is a computing game that many African shepherds enjoy in the pastures, and believe me, this can help a learner to learn how to applied different mathematical formulae.
In order to compete in the market, we must enjoy changing with the world. It will not help us to force to learn and teach in old ways that had been used in our olden days.

  70. There was a time when children were well prepared if they had a slate board an a slate pencil for school. Now learning is very different and the access to technology in the classroom offers much more advantage to children. Learning is a process that can benefit from teaching aids and support for the lessons. Technology in the classroom has provided many new tools to assist the teachers. The equipment that can be used in the classroom can bring far more inforation and understanding to any topic. Visual aids and anything that can help clarify the point will make teaching the lesson easier for the teacher as well. No one misses the old days of slate boards and pencils.

Technology began to creep into the classroomj as soon as it was available. Projectors were one of the first tools early teachers found helpful. Tape recorders were also found to be beneficial and brought into the lesson plan. Overhead projecs brought with them the chance for teachers to display difficult concepts more easily to the whole class. All of these tools make learning easier and more interesting for students and teachers. The introduction of computers and computer lesson plans has exploded the amount of information available for students with access to the internet.

People all learn in different ways and technology in the classroom has brought more options forward to help students. the details they are learning may be the same but the ways they are receiving it can now vary to meet more learning needs. Speeding the learning process.

  71. technology does infact play an important role in todays society and implementing it in the learning classroom will only benefit the learners in a positive light. learners will be able to use technology effectively, even in the ooutside world of work they will still be using technology so it's better that they are exposed to it at an earlier stage. different types of technolgy and not just computers must be explored by learners because this will help them to adjust quickly to the world of fast and ever changing technolgy. and because learning takes place on a social scale, technology will enable learners to communicate not just with their school mate but with the outside world too, enabling them to get a variety of information and different opinions of other people.

  74. i agree with Sanet, everyone learns differently and when implememnting technology in classrooms we need to understand that everyone has a different perception on the manner in which it is introduced and taught. all learners differ and we cannot only accomodate one type and ignore the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  75. i agree with you moitheri learners must be exposed to the use of technolgy at an early stage.Technology is becoming a visible part of children’s lives. Computers are an important part of children’s lives, even those young enough to attend pre-school. From classroom settings to home use, computers are now a part of how children learn, play, and communicate.

    ReplyDelete
  76. In my personal opinion i feel that classrooms are becoming to commercialised and the learners are depending on technology for the amswers rather than using their own inisiative and imagination.

its all good and well that we have technology that upgrades at a phenomenal rate but what ever happened to the "old school" tradition where we had to research and use our imaginations. where we were able to be creative and think for ourselves. im not saying that the technology used in the clasrooms like media boards and that are a disadvantage im just think that the computer games, the way teachers over seas e mail and assess work via a computer can be useful to learning.

the one-on-one learning process brings bout a bigger understanding and aloows the teacher to have a relationship with his/her students.

yes some learners might learn better with technology but then whart are varsities and colleges for, why introduce all the new technology at once? why not have it introduced bit by bit, like when we were in school u had technology class but u also had art class and other types of classes as well.

  77. I believe that technology has always played an important role on the learning process. If we think back to when we were young,I think that we will realise that we can still recall every song and t.v. programme that we liked as kids. This goes to show the impact of technology in our learning.we must also bear in mind that everyone learns differently and when implememnting technology in classrooms we need to understand that everyone has a different perception on the manner in which it is introduced and taught. The use of different technological tools will create an inclussive classroom and better results as all the learners can be involved.

  79. to refilwe by technology it does not necessarily mean students having their cellphoes in their backpacks all time. The educational technologies we referring to is the implementations of computers in the classroom which obviously have restricted sites and also for instance by having video during lesson because that will be learner's attention focus. And the other thing is blog because we know how much time students spend on the internet it might be of good use instead of having a long boring discussion in class with the same three students everyday the lecture could post the topic and they discuss it because I am talking from experience. So as much as technology rule our lives we might as well get used to it and use these social page(facebook) to good use because we always on facebook and everytime i press my phone is either i go to mxit or facebook no matter where I am or what times is I am always there

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree with Sjanel in that there are many ways in which technologies will help us to overcome barriers in the classroom like as she said language. It is also therefore neccessary that we redesign our classsrooms in order to accomadate modern technology and the learners as well as the educator.
It is simply not enough to have the technology with all the needed programs if the classroom is crammed and uncomfortable. We need to also account for many things which a computer for example may change in a classroom; for example if there are 30 computers running the classroom will become hot and learners may become uncomfortable so perhaps an airconditioning unit may solve this problem, and benefit the learners with continuous fresh air. Another thing which must be accounted for is that when a classroom is redesigned into a more educational learning space the place in which a learner may sit and work allows the learner to learn with the right ergonics and therefore will not affect their health in the long run.
It is also important that the educators use technology as a learning tool and not as the material to learn itself. Programs must be used in a way that a learner benefits from them in that they in a sense self learn and the educator simply directs them towards the outcomes which they must achieve.

  81. Welcome back dear Students
So far the use of Technology in the classroom has a positive impact in our lives and for those around us.

Now, when referring to the use library in the school context, this is where students make their references with regards their studies.

The library enhance student learning by Bringing together Technology Content and Service.

Whereas Traditional Library Limit Users due to some licensed information access. This is evident in our schools because learners nor students are not allowed to visit web sides, so to foe example porn videos nor sex video.
And in our Library we do not have to check emails due to Library Restrictions.

Information Commons SUPPORT specialism such as IT, this is highly integrated at workplaces where the service providers can receive Reflection regarding Improving Service and Questions can be asked.

Now, one can conclude by saying that Technology integrate Learning in the Spaces that Provide people with Learning Environment that is suitable for Learning and creating Positive Learning Experience.
This will then improve access to active Collaboration and group Interaction using technology in the classroom.

  84. Technology i believe is not something of the future, but something which we are adapting to everyday as it evolves and changes so rapidly. it is all very well changing a learning space to benefit the learner however, this costs money which many schools do not have. Therefore the process of bringing in technology gradually as the school can afford it is a better option as learners then to gradually may adapt and better their learning rather than being thrown in the deep end.

I do believe that technology is the way in which education needs to move towards as there are so many benefits. Learners are not interested in books and libraries but rather the internet where they even have a chance of interacting with an expert in a learning area possibly living in another country. Another benefit is that there research will not be out dated or vague as there are many possibilities for answers which they may need answered.

It is important however, that if learners are allowed this fantastic new way of learning that the educator first educates them on simple things like referencing and how to use the technology. Schools must also put up blocks for websites and viruses to protect learners. The technology must also then be available to all learners and schools must ensure that each learner has an equal opportunity.

This technology must then be used as learning tools which allow learners to explore information and make relationships between topics on their own. Technology will be very effective as it offers pictures and in depth explanations and even virtual worlds which a learner may explore and learn from. For example imagine teaching about the human bodies digestive system in Biology, learners could then interact on a computer with a virtual world where they are in fact moving through the body and actively learning without knowing it.

  85. The most effective way of using educational technologies in the schools of the future is to create new opportunities for learning and to promote learners achievement. ICT’s should enable hands on activity, for example an educator should give practical work to be completed by learners. That could enable learners to be able to survive in their field of work in future.
For the school to realise the benefits of ICT’s they must develop a plan for integrating technology into the curriculum. This can be done by instructing the learners to submit a typed assignment.

  87. Firstly I would encourage that the schools of future should be built and structured in a way that will promote ICTs usage. Then we have to look at the following elements leadership, funding and infrastructure in order to implement those ICTs in the schools of the future, so that the ICTs may be used for educational purposes. The government should be willing to assist lacking school in rural area so that they may afford these ICTs .Computers could be an interesting mode of learning however if not monitored it might not be used for academic purposes only. The school need to employ people who will monitor the use of computers. Cell phone should be allowed to be used but to some extent and the learners must be faithful to use those phones academically during school hours. Learners who can afford should be allowed to bring their lap tops to avoid overcrowding in computes labs however the security of the school must be tight. The libraries should be built in a way that will accommodate all learners and be neat and organised .To some extent learners should also be allowed to use projectors and slides when presenting, so that they develop more creativity. The school should promote the use of art and media and encourage learners to do research in order to gain more knowledge.

  88. I agree with you Refiloe because cell phones can be too disruptive in the classroom, when the educator is busy delivering his or her lesson. For example the learner might be busy chatting on a mixit and automatically lose focus.

I would recommend that educators facilitate the use of every technological tool in the classroom including the cell phones.

I agree with you however it will not be easy for learners to be without their cellphones.i think a scholl should develope a strict policy towards the usage of cellphones during school hours.

  90. I totally agree with you but bringing laptops to school is not really the best idea because not all students can afford that the only thing it will do is to increase crime and for other students to feel intimidated and this will result in low results for instance a child who does not have laptop will nag his/her mother to buy him/her not so the is no way that he/she is going to school because his/her friends have them. So the only thing is for both the government and the school to come together buy computers for the learners at the school.

  94. How educational technologies can be used in classroom.

Educational technology (also called learning technology) is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources. The term educational technology is often associated with, and encompasses, instructional theory and learning theory. While instructional technology covers the processes and systems of learning and instruction, educational technology includes other systems used in the process of developing human capability. Educational Technology includes, but is not limited to, software, hardware, as well as Internet applications and activities.
Technology in the classroom help educators to make better use of technology tools for instruction, and to help students improve their technology skills within the context of the regular curriculum. Included: Integration activities that utilize the Web, PowerPoint, Excel, digital photography, SMART Boards, and more.
In more and more schools today, technology is recognized as an instructional tool, not as a subject of instruction. Still, many educators, less familiar and less comfortable with technology than their students, struggle to seamlessly integrate a growing list of technology tools into their regular curriculum..
Using technology in the classroom is becoming easier for teachers. Students are coming to class with more skills. Whether a teacher requires it or not, most students use technology for their projects."
Here are technology tools that can be used in the classrooms to help students to develop their knowledge
    Internet
"The Internet has many sites that easily lend themselves to classroom integration. The Internet is loaded with activities for all types of classes, with internet students can search valuable information, prepare their priojects and also get to explore their ideas. The internet also helps teachers in their lessons for example if they have to do a research, eg.. A study of Civil War battles would be an example of that type of activity; the teacher would assign groups different battles, the students would research their assigned battles, collect pictures, and then give a guided tour of the battlefield, telling what happened there
    POWERPOINT AND EXCEL
Power Point is another technology tool that's exceptionally easy to use in the classroom. All kinds of research projects can be adapted to this application. A teacher can use PowerPoint if she has to present a lesson, using PowerPoint presentation. Besides standard presentations, such as slide shows, projects may be presented in an interactive way, using a game show format, for example. Our students often used PowerPoint to accompany oral reports on curricular topics.
    WORD PROCESSING
"Facilitate students' ability to use word processors (depending on age, of course) and they can do a lot with technology on their own without taking up teacher time. Word processing is a standard application available in almost every school. A word processing program can be used for desktop publishing; students can create newsletters and magazines, advertisements and flyers, even business cards. The drawing tools included in most word processing programs allow students to create pictures and logos, puzzles and more.

  95. ICT is most simply and comfortably defined as an array of tools that might prove helpful in advancing student learning. Educational Technology relies on a broad definition of the word "technology". Technology can refer to material objects of use to humanity, such as machines or hardware, but it can also encompass broader themes, including systems, methods of organization, and techniques. Some modern tools include but are not limited to overhead projectors, laptop computers, and calculators. Newer tools such as "smartphones" and games both online and offline are beginning to draw serious attention for their learning potential.

I do get your point but I do not support Refiloe's opinion nor yours. I would rather say 'Our teachers' without computer skill should be provided those skills rather than Replacing them.
And this is evident in our counntry because the DOE is offering Bursaries for the educators for developing their their Computer Skills and the Use of Technology nor ICT in the classroom.
But I am not against your opinions, just the other brighter side of looking at things.

  98. I agree with what Carrey-Anne posted. We, as teachers have got to striveto change and improve our classrooms at all times. In my opinion, this can be done if technology is properly and correctly implemented, designed and operated in classrooms.

Implementation of technology in classrooms is a great way to achieve open discussions in a classroom, open discussion also enrivhes the learning of a child.

Carey-Anne also made reference to a very important aspect that we as, teachers will be faced with... There is often no funds for the implementation of ICT's in schools. A great solution that she suggested was fundraising. If all schools took such a positive approach to the implementation of ICT's in classrooms, i think that all learning will be enriched!

  99. Implementing technology in the classroom

We need to face the fact that technology is the future of learning and this is more evident as the country develops more. And as teachers and educators we need to fully understand the implications and how to implement technology in our schools. Technology makes learning more interesting for the learners and most of the time allows them to do more practical work which in turn will decrease their understanding of the lesson taught.

    Technology and information in schools

Technology allows learns to access information easier and faster than before. There are many tools that can be used be used to access information, such are can be virtual libraries, Google scholar, Wikipedia and many more other tools. Even in conventional libraries, technology can still be used to make the book and information easy accessible to the learners. And this can the done by putting all the books in a data base where the learners can just search for a particular book and they can also put separate articles of research that are easily accessible the learners. Another important thing is to make the school library by making it more learner friendly or learner attracting. This can be achieved by putting more attractive but educating posters in the library change the setting of the library and also changing some furniture in the library in future that will interest and attract the learners.

    Using computers to learn

Most people when they define technology they first thing that comes to their minds is a computer. It is then right to say that computers are the center of technology and in implementing technology is schools; computers should be put in the forefront of the learning and teaching process. Research shows that learners seem to learners better and pay more attention when using computers and they engage themselves in the learning and teaching more process more than usual. Computers can be used to search for information do practical mathematical problems and many other learning activities.

    The classroom setting

The classroom should be the place that promotes optimum learning and to achieve this, the setting should be learners friendly. This can be done by arrange the sets in a way that promotes co-operative learning. There should also be educational posters in the classroom.

  100. ICT IN SCHOOLS OF THE FUTURE

Gone are the days where it was enough that a school has a library and a couple of computers as the facilities available. We are heading towards a generation where everything would need to be renovated and remodeled to suit the needs of the learners of the time.

As we are well aware, learning styles differ and this would need to be considered by an educator that has kinesthetic, visual and auditory learners in his classroom. Using the technologies, an educator can effectively provide these experiences in the classroom so that this becomes a learning experience the learners will remember as having been a meaningful task.

Learners lead very busy lives, not only do they need to be up-to-date with the work that they do at school but they also have busy social lives and constantly need to stay in touch with people. Its getting easier and easier to keep in touch with people using Facebook, Twitter and MXit to name but a few applications. Keeping this in mind, educators need to adjust their own teaching strategies to include these since many have grasped the art of multitasking anyway.

ICT’s should not only be implemented but they should be used in the classroom by ensuring that firstly the educators are well trained and use the technologies in their own classrooms. By integrating the use of different technologies, the learners will benefit not only the skills but many of them already use them in their own free time so it’ll be closer to their own personal lives,

Even libraries have had to be upgraded to not to just be places where you go if you want to study in peace or research information in some countries but a one-stop area for all your needs. The internet and variety of student-appealing softwares allow for students to not only access information but to also be able to use, alter, reproduce and share it. They even went as far as to provide a café where students can get refreshments and the necessary tools needed to allow for individuals to bring their own laptops and connect to one screen for easier viewing. I think that it s this concept that needs to be used not just in our South African libraries but in schools as well. Fact is, many learners cannot afford to have state of the art technologies in their homes, what better place to get access to all sorts of resources than in schools? With the new curriculum, collaboration is emphasized and we should then have another look at our classrooms and computer labs specifically at the message we are sending to the learners.

  101. The desired outcome of the implementation of ICT's in schools is to enrich both learning as well as teaching. If properly implemented, designed and operated, ICT's can enhance students learning as well as scholarship. The question on most teachers minds is: How do we implement technology in such a way that enriches the learning of students?

Firstly, it must be noted that ICT's should be used as an asset by teachers. ICT's should attract students to go to places that they would not normally go to. ICT's should stimulate learners, motivate learners and most importantly they should be used in the process of collaboration among students.

Technology that schools can use in the future include computers/laptops, the implemenation of new softwares, interactive white boards (smart boards), video editing equipment as well as video conferencing capabilities.

Many schools today do make use of computer labs that are filled to the brim with computers. The question that schools should ask themselves though is: does it accomodate all types of learning styles on different levels, are the compuetrs spaced in such a way that they encourage collaboration? It is important that these issues are considered when implementing ICT's in a classroom.

In schools, computers can be used to attract the students to this place that they dare go to... the library! They are motivated to go to the library becuase of the computers and then they can use these computers to locate library resources.

ICT's play an important role in education these days. From my experience, I feel that an interactive whiteboard is one of the best ICT's that can be implemented in classrooms. The name- interactive white board is just that... interactive! Students are encouraged to interact with eachother and this motivates learning as well.

In my opinion, the incorporation if ICT's in future classrooms is imperative for learning. I also believe that it does not receive as much attention and funding that it really deserves.

I dont think technology is part of our rituals, but it is part of our daily lives. It is true that learners are much more iterested in browsing from the internet, unlike paging through the heavy textbook today. I totaly agree with you when you say blogger, internet, emails and chat rooms can be used as a source collaboration and interaction across all race and cultural groups around the globe. Technology can also encourage inclusive education in schools with the equipment that is eccessible to every learner as advantage.teachers and learners can engage more with one another due to availability of technology in their learning spaces.

  105. As the E-Book extends their elaborations from the space importance to the Information Commons, there appears a great need of comparison between the traditional strategies of learning/engaging learners to learning the current ones. The use of information and Communication technologies (ICT) is pervasive and recommended in such evidence that it welcomes students in libraries and other learning sectors to self-regulate their information search other than depending on the Library experts or assistants for searching, finding and retrieving information. Information commons, for example, as part of the technology advances facilities in libraries, they come with wireless access that allows more and more student to acquisition of knowledge, and the hardwired Internet connection for learners to be able to explore internet for all academic and research purposes.
The technology in an information commons is intentionally more pervasive than in most traditional academic libraries. If not already a feature of the library, wireless access is added when the information commons is developed. In addition, increased hardwired Internet connections lets students access large files, such as multimedia, or offer an alternative to wireless when the network becomes saturated at peak use times. ICT will enhance student learning and scholarship. This also brings a great difference in learning as compared to the form of technologies usually offered in traditional library sectors. The marching of ICT and the learning space is of crucial value because having set a collaborative sitting furniture and design for learners’ study and put away form them other technical resources of communication (with other groups or among themselves) will oblige learners to study in separation. Now ICT allows space from social interaction, group working and grouping with adequate technical resources, such as a desktop, internet, and free space for each group. ICT is important for pupils both (now and for future) at learning level and at work place level of their life because technology is used everywhere.

  108. mashudu i definitely agree with you, technology has dominated these days and most of the things that we do on our daily basis is in relation with technology, therefore i also feel that it is essential that technology be used as a fundamental in education. we also have to bare in mind that by exposing children in schools to technology we are preparing them for tertiary and providing them with necessary skills for the corporate world. not only will this help learners but it will also make learning fun for them because technological learning includes authentic leaning which makes learners feel as being practically part of the lesson

  109. We are living in times where technology is rapidly changing and being advanced all the time. Educational technologies should be used in schools accordingly and appropiately and should have a positive effect on learners experiences. The chapters are concerned with advanced technology that will create an effective learning environment. Using advanced technology, information commons (ICT) as mentioned here, one can create a collaborative learning space, not just a computer lab but rather a place where one can access, create and use information. Also, it will enhance learning and provide for learners an academic as well as a social environment. For future use in schools, one can change the outlook of a library as well as the simple computer lab by implementing information commons. This allows one to use the space and create a place for groupwork and interaction rather than a quiet place for individual studying.Furthermore information commons allows learners to perform a wide range of technology and information-related
activities in space conducive to group work. The future of ICT in schools also depends on the design of such environments. Despite multiple design possibilities, however, there is just one desired outcome and that is to enrich learning and teaching. Space should offer variety, both for the school, educators and for learners. Space should be fluid and flexible so that it can accommodate different learning and teaching styles effortlessly. These are innovative ways in which one can use educational technologies in South African schools for the desired outcomes in the future.

  110. Firstly let me define educational technology; it is a combination of the processes and tools involved in addressing educational needs and problems with an emphasis on applying the most current tools: computers and their related technologies. The question posed is; how should ICT'S be used in the schools of the future? I believe that as technology changes and progresses, we as educators and school managers need to make the necessary adjustments and progress to stay informed and to stay ahead.

In chapter 7 we look at the use of information commons or commons that have been implemented in other universities have drawn students by offering an environment that addresses their needs, by bringing together technology, content, and services in a physical space different from traditional libraries.Information commons as a feature of the library has wireless access, increased hardwired internet connections allowing students to access large files, such as multimedia. Some infomation commons have computers configured with a rich application suite and has software such as, word-processing, presentation and spreadsheet software, statistical packages, geographical information systems(GIS) etc.

When I was reading chapter 7,8 and 10. I realised that most of the people that needed change at their universities took the initiative, by forming mission statements, by organising teams, by getting architechs and design specialists. When I read this I was thinking where is the money for this? The amswer, teamwork as a school, fundraising using what we have to work with and using our budget correctly. In this way we have the funds to upgrade and to do the necessary changes required so that we can be school's that make a difference, and that uses technology to enhance learning.

Equiping and training teachers is also very important, from the examples I read the staff who assisted the students were competent and highly trained. We need systems in place, we need committed teachers who will plan things in accordance with the needs of the students, and what is best for them. This is very important. Most school's have libraries, we need to ask how can we use or change our library to assist more learners, e.g allow for group discussions, have tutors who are ready to help etc. We need to use the space that we have to enhance and change learning radically.

  112. ICT’S- is information and communication technology. In today’s times I agree that you need to implement it in schools reason being children are more involved in technologies today, especially computers. It’s a way of communicating in writing. Technology has moved in at a very fast rate. Children start using computers at the early of 7 so by implementing it in schools children will start learning and getting familiar with it at a young age. This in turn helps them later in life. Another important reason of why we should have computers in schools is because the amount of information we have is increasing all the time, so there is a constant need of recording it, processing it, storing it and sharing it with others whether it be at a distance or close proximity. It also allows us to do all these things quickly and efficiently. ICT includes not only computers, but also equipment (or hardware) such as printers and scanners as well as the software and systems needed for communication, such as the Internet, video recorders, television, radio and digital cameras.

By implementing ICT’S into classrooms it enhances learning, especially in the context of recording, processing, storing and sharing information with others. I personally think that these technologies should be implemented in schools from grade 4 right through high school. In this way learners have a good foundation of technologies and are ready for university life. The most important thing is to bring about the usage of computers in schools. In this way learners can be familiar with the usage of the internet also. Another technology that could be of good use is the use of videos and DVD’s. Learners show more interest and remember things better when given things in picture form. So by bringing in videos of educational topics will be useful.

  113. The use of ICTs tools in future schools
The transforming nature of Information and Communications Technologies has been identified as a critical factor in the effort to change in the education system. The ICT purpose is to build sustainable capacity in the Ministry of Education for the continuing quality improvement of curriculum, instruction, learning and assessment, focusing on ICT as a transforming and integrating force.
.ICT quickly and easily connects individuals one on one and many without regard to stature, distance, or time. The ICT framework is built on the premise that a student will take control of his/her own learning with guidance by teachers who have created positive learning environments. Well-designed lessons, learning resources, and e-learning materials that effectively and appropriately use ICT will allow students to reach their potential. Every textbook, as it is written, will be reviewed to see that it incorporates high quality ICT based lessons, resources, and activities.
Major component that learners will be able to use in future schooling are
    • SMS messaging, audio and video chat, audio and video "podcasting"
    • the "blogosphere" - weblogs as large-scale collaboration tools
    • web-broadcast syndication tools
    • Web-broadcast aggregation tools (automated notification, clipping services, filtering, weighting).learners may use the following to create content of their web page.
    • shared resources (libraries) for content creation
    • publish content via any channel (using workflow in necessary)
    • share content (locking as appropriate)
    • link/relate content (Wiki)
    • Versioning (history) of content
    • social tagging
    • favorite / bookmark
    • put into sets / categories / groups
In all the above mentioned tools they play a collaborative role in contribution to blogger, epals, Google tools and collaborative tools learners can use this communication tools to do whatever task in their learning areas. These tools make life easier as technology develops and the education system needs to get familiar with these tools a lot to create a simple learning atmosphere for learners and also to make them used to technological devices. With the implement this strategy learners would hand in assignments that are represent able to faculties and the pass rates of presentable work would be high and there will be no need to give more extra test than required.

  114. I agree with Gerda as well. Learners learn more and better from the things they enjoy most for example, internet, chatrooms, blogger, emails, facebook etc. We can consider these as educational technologies because learners are learning from each other as this encourages group work and collaboration. It also gives learners and teachers the opportunity to interact with each other and gain knowledge out of school.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I would like to strongly agree with Thina's points of view when claiming that the only weapon to educational civilization for the future is technology. Living in such technically developing environments of South Africa is accompanied by a number of challenges such as those that require South African to have technichal history or be autonomous and farmiliar with technologies. And ,moreover, we as teachers we may never know what learning contents for the future but what we aleardy know is that the more the curriculum changes, the more it accomodates and incoorporate new technologies into learning.

that is enough to believe that due to technology, the requirements for opportunities and greener pustures will change in future-this calls for effective teaching of learners to get used to learning technologies and that helps them match the standard of learning at that particular era/century. ICT facilitation offers learners a chance to acquire information on internet, work in groups and collaborate, free and open space of learning, increases the independence skills acquisition as it allows learning to be technichally guided and mediated as compared to traditional learning strategies.

    ReplyDelete
  116. It is crucial that schools are involving the use of technology in classrooms for the development of the learner's cognitive, social, emotional and intellectual development of the learners. ICT raises standards of pupil's achievement if it is in a very designed ways that link to both their interests (learners enjoy using hardwired internet connections for accessing large files such as multimedia) and their curriculum.

Educators need to spend more time in the planning process before a lesson or series of lessons. However, such usage of technology has its pro’s and con’s, educators may view this use of technology as a means and a simplier way to teach; reducing their workload and may consequently be positive on the training that they may have as the first strategy for the implementation. In contrast, other educators may feel that the implementation change in their workplace (for example changing from paper- based system to computer based system) is time consuming initially.

There are several ways that the use if ICT can be used in schools as well as ways that can help.

    1. pupil contact (for example, registration and contacting parents by email);
    2. school/staff management (for example, organising timetables and planning);
    3. general administration (for example, keeping department/school records);
    4. organising resources (such as, books and equipment); and
    5. Individual/professional activity (for example, being trained).
Other ways that educators can use to help identify a number of recurring themes include:
    • Creating reusable teaching materials (saving preparation time);
    • Sharing teaching materials and lesson plans via an intranet;
    • Giving students access to materials out of hours;
    • Producing multimedia materials which helped them to explain and present material more clearly;
    • Using ICT to create interactive and engaging lessons that would motivate disaffected students; and
    • Using ICT to monitor attendance and progress and to alert teachers, parents and students to the need for intervention or support.
The use of ICT is an important element of meeting and collaboration; supporting learning through connecting individual learners with other people and activities; they can even participate in diverse activities that create a sense of belonging as well. During this support of learning from ICT , educators have a crucial role to act during all activities that take place. Their role is to be guardians all the way; making sure that learners are given a mission statement or objective for their activity, making sure that learners are active partakers of the handling (rules for usage) of these technological devices. This is mainly because there are learners who will see this as an opportunity for them to misuse ICT by doing non academic work. With both the support of educators and parents, the implementation of ICT in schools can be a success.

  118. dear Winnie, I totaly not disagree with you in your view of the advantage of using technology in school. It is essential that we do consider that technology implementation may not be a success without collaboration and proper stategy of educators; involving both parents and learners. Without such plan; the problem of discipline in schools can and will arise. Therefore, educators should make sure that all activities are guided well.

  119. ICT IN EDUCATION
The usage of information technologies in school is very important and can improve the standard of education in our country. Through technology education can be spread world and reach a wide audience. For an example television as a technological communication tool can be used to reach a number of students even at homes. This tool is already being used in our country to facilitate learning and it helps students more especially matriculates’ to be able to see whether they are behind or in line with the curriculum. Learners tend to explore in learning when using technology because they are exposed to various sources where they can acquire information and be informed. Therefore what I am basically trying to say is that through ICT learning, learners can go an extra mile than being just centered in a classroom and following a daily routine that allows them to cram instead of reasoning.

It is important that the education system maximises the use of ICT to ensure that
real added value is provided in terms of improvements in teaching and learning and
in supporting the drive to raise standards of performance for all pupils. This will also increase communication among learners because they will be able to communicate with one another even they are at their homes through the usage of blogs and emails which are also part of technology.

Taking into consideration that technology involves a variety of things and gives access to majority of things may also be unnecessary for learning one can state that it can corrupt learners rather than building them. What I have just outlined may be seen as the negative part of using ICT in schools however teachers can find a way of eliminated these by making some of the sites inaccessible. Either than that the usage of ICT may be very beneficial for learning in the future and can increase the standard of learning for both the teacher and learner.

  120. Dear Nokubonga I Agree with you Hopefully, you are starting to understand just how powerful teachers together with parents monitoring software can be and how it can help you to keep a watchful eye on your children. Now your children may use the computer and you do not have to stand behind them while they access the web or do other things on your computer. It is all recorded in one convenient place and you can look at it at any time. And educates they should make sure everything is going okey.

  121. Technology in schools of the future

Today’s classrooms need to prepare students to become citizens of the information age. Learners must think critically, analyze and synthesize information to solve technical, social, economic, political, and scientific problems, and work productively in groups.

Educational technology, especially computers and computer-related peripherals, have grown tremendously and have permeated all areas of our lives. It is incomprehensible that anyone today would argue that schools should use less technology. Most young people cannot understand arguments that schools should limit technology use. For them, use of the Internet, for example, plays a major role in their relationships with their friends, their families, and their schools. Teens and their parents generally think use of the Internet enhances the social life and academic work of teenagers

The Internet is becoming an increasingly vital tool in our information society. More people are going online to conduct such day-to-day activities as education, business transactions, personal correspondence, research and information-gathering, and job searches. Each year, being digitally connected becomes ever more critical to economic and educational advancement and community participation. Now that a large number of people regularly use the Internet to conduct daily activities, people who lack access to these tools are at a growing disadvantage. Therefore, raising the level of digital inclusion by increasing the number of people using the technology tools of the digital age is a vitally important national goal.

Technology motivating rather than mandating, What I see as an educator is that given the opportunity through adequate resources, innovative instruction and appropriate support for development of self-efficacy, there is not a need to mandate technology use for learners or teachers. Technology is an interesting.

Technology has been proved to accommodate learning styles and to be an effective motivator for learners with specific learning needs. Finally, learners working in collaborative-team-learning settings appear to function better when learning events are accompanied by technology use.

  122. With the rapid advancements in technology today, the integration of ICTs in the learning and teaching processes is inevitable. Schools need to adapt to the changing times in order to accommodate the learning needs of the students. The first and probably the most important adjustment that needs to be made is the way in which learning environments are structured. Learning spaces need to move toward a convention where they no longer restrict learning through rules such as ‘no talking’ and layouts which do not support group work. ICTs should be used to help encourage learning through social means and group work. For example, a network could be created to connect all the computers used on campus so that it becomes easier for students to connect with other students and teachers if they should require assistance. Wireless connections can be introduced to further accommodate learners and would encourage learning in informal structures as well. This way learners’ will be able to bring their laptops from home and use what they are familiar with. Computers should also be equipped with user-friendly programmes, which help learners understand how to make use of such technologies, and the basics such as Word etc. Another way in which this can be done is by creating blogs or groups on Facebook whereby the learners and teachers are able to connect in the comfort of their own homes. The internet is a given when integrating ICTs, however, restrictions need to be put in place where inappropriate sites are inaccessible. Learners should also be equipped with knowledge on how to use the internet effectively and how to make use of it in order to stay connected with others. Cell phones have become an important part of daily life and are also an important means of staying connected on the move. Students in particular make use of cell phones frequently and many of the cell phones that students use are like mini-computers. This form of technology can also be integrated into the learning process where teachers can create class activities where the use of a cell phone is required. ICTs in schools should accommodate group learning as well, where learners are able to use one computer as a group etc. ICTs also need to be able to allow learners to learn at their discretion, where they have the freedom to look up information as required etc.

  124. I agree with what carrey-anne has said. We do need to make learning more fun and accessible and one way to do this is through the technologies used everday. These technologies help make the learning process more convenient and learners will no longer have to go out of their way to find information or to gain help. Through the implementation of such technologies one may be able to create a learning environment conducive to learning.

  125. Dear njabulo, i would like to agree with you Yes, technology does advance quickly. Five year old PCs let alone old notebooks may have a little more juice left in them, but probably within a closed system and not very mobile. Upgrading becomes difficult, whether it is software or peripheral compatibility. I can understand why schools need to now try a one to many approach to technology. Teachers should require the use of technology. It is part of the standards and many others. Technology while a tool is also a valuable resource that most learners will use to a greater degree in the future.

  126. One point that Refiloe made which is rather relevant, is that work places and most other environments outside the classroom use technology and therfore we need to prepare our learners for this. There is no point in educating our learners when they will not use this knowledge elsewhere. By integrating technology into the classroom, we will be able to prepare our learners for the real world

    ReplyDelete
  127. In all of those chapters I have read, there was a point that repeatedly emphasized which was the importance of an informal learning space. It stated that people do not just learn in formal space like the classrooms for example, but learning also take place elsewhere, these places are to be called the informal learning space. There are two kinds of informal learning space, one is physical space like a café, students can sit with their books and a cup of coffee, spend their time learning in this environment. The other informal space is the digital space. As technologies rapidly developing, students nowadays use various technologies to find information related or nonrelated to academic work. Schools cannot ignore the digital learning space as it is becoming crucial in student lives. Therefore schools in the future should take technologies into consideration when doing the educational planning. Currently in schools, there are already many technologies presented in the classrooms, for example the data projector is one of the most common technologies in classrooms. Some schools also provide internet access in schools’ computer labs, some may even have their own website which students use to share learning experience and access information with.

Learning is a social activity. The best way of learning is to communicate with teachers or students to share their learning experience. To enhance communications schools can develop a network space for students to communicate with each other, just like Edulink, students can leave messages under the teacher’s column and chat with send short messages to school friends. Or if possible can also create an instant messaging application to provide safe environment for chatting. Thus criminals like those on MXit, for example, will be eliminated and students can enjoy the fun of chatting at the same time.

Multisensory experience can enhance memory and interest in learning. Thus the technology provided in schools should support multimedia. For example, teachers can use video to demonstrate a concept or phenomenon and to use experiments or gaming to practice. When using visual media, it is important to use colorful sources to stimulate their visual sense. If it is just an article, make sure bright colors highlighted the important points, or to have some pictures at the sides to help students to understand the content better.

If the school is using their own website for sharing of information, it is an advantage to change the home page or front cover of the subject regularly according to the topic the subject is teaching. For example, Life Orientation can have a photo of a stressed student as the front page while teaching the topic of stress, and have a photo of an athlete when teaching the topic of physical well-being. By doing this, teachers can emphasize the topic and create a theme for students for better understanding.

Privacy is important on internet settings while it is a tool for information sharing. On the school website, it is important to have a private space for students where they can keep their homework, research results, and information in this space without other students browsing it. This functions well, to certain extent, to prevent plagiarism.

Lastly, to connect and support physical learning space, mobility is important. It allows students to truly access information anywhere and anytime. Technologies, like the mobile phone, is becoming very important in life, although many families in South Africa cannot afford a phone which supports GPRS or 3G connections but it will becoming popular in the near future. Schools can take advantages by creating a WAP site and make announcements information on the subjects available on the site for easy access.

  128. As technologies develop, schools can use more and more different technologies for educational purpose and there are much software which designed specifically for education, teacher can also use various technologies to enhance learning. Thus make the practice of teaching and learning much easier and interesting for both teachers and the students.

By the way, the name appear on the register list is Xinrui Zhang.

  129. Schools would be expected to be connected to their local communities, so that pupils could access online libraries out of school hours. "For the first time, it allows teachers to teach pupils as individuals ... and the most able and the most disaffected can be taught in the same classroom." "We also need to look at how schools of the future are designed, to make sure they are able to manage current and future changes in ICT." And the Department for Education would soon be producing a guide which would help schools adapt buildings for new technology. But warned that the investment in educational technology - worth 1m.8bn over six years - was an opportunity that would not be repeated and that schools had to show that the money was well spent. Suggesting what this money might achieve, the video showed vast, open-plan spaces containing hi-tech study areas equipped with palmtops, laptops, plasma screens and electronic whiteboards. The school becomes a place where technology allows "children of all abilities to learn at their own pace alongside one another, studying individually or in groups" - where "teachers can offer leadership to pupils with the support of a classroom assistant". Learning support assistants provide one-to-one help for those with special needs. "All of this is backed by the availability of technical support, so that there is no disruption to the free flow of learning and development," it says. The issue of educational technology has played a major part in improving the learning outcomes of individuals by personalizing the learning experience. The immediate responsiveness of computer based programs, and the self-paced private learning environment that educational technology warrants seeks to promote higher levels of motivation among students worldwide. It has also provided greater access to education such as in the case of increased accommodation for students with severe physical disabilities and for students living in remote locations.

  130. The idea of information/learning commons in technology (ICT's) should definitely be incorporated into the classroom. For instance, these facilities include both library and technology resources in one. Therefore, they are highly beneficial to students in any environment provided there is space for learning. By including these ICT's, the students will be given the opportunity to multitask and therefore their learning will be enhanced.

One can include this concept of ICT's by simply rethinking the classroom layout or library layout within a school. For example, the teacher in her classroom can rearrange the desks and chairs to create a more workable space where students can collaborate and interact with one another rather than be isolated. The library or computer lab of a school can also be transformed from its traditional setup to one that is more flexible. To assist in this, teachers and staff should include chairs with wheels, movable desks and get rid of any partitions to allow transparency among learners for example. Students no longer want to be seated row by row as this restricts them and they feel isolated. So by doing this, learners will feel more comfortable within their environment and therefore learning will improve.

The use or incorporation of technologies in the classroom will also benefit the students greatly. For instance, by including computers, laptops, projectors and smart boards, the students will be encouraged to engage with one another more openly. In addition, teachers from individual subjects can create blogs for specific topics, like in History for example, students will then be able to join the blog and actively participate and give their thoughts and ideas with relevance to the specified topic. Again, this encourages collaboration through space and technology.

Lastly, educators should pay attention to the aesthetics in the classroom, for example, by making the learning space attractive learners will be more enthused to learn and be creative. This can be done by simply putting up colourful posters in the classroom or by painting the walls a nice bright, lively colour rather than a drab brown or grey. The lighting in the school library can be adjusted for instance to create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere rather than the usual unfriendly bright spotlights. All of these changes can take place with the help of space and technology to create a learner friendly environment and thus achieving the creation of an information common where learning and scholarship is encouraged.

  131. Schools should create an environment that addresses the needs of the learners that attend. In libraries in schools today there is technology, content and services in a physical space, but in schools of the future there should be a space to learn and do research in an environment that is different than that of a typical library today. The space should be intentionally more pervasive than a library today. There should be wireless access and space for the learners’ laptops. In libraries today there is no speaking or communication allowed of any sort, in the libraries of the future this learning area should accommodate group of learners. At schools learners receive a vast amount of research assignments to do in groups, so in the library of the future there will be furniture built in this area that allows group work to take place. If many students are to do an assignment together the furniture will be designed so that several students are able to sit around a single computer. Learners learn mostly in an informal setting, that is everywhere except the classroom. Information is given to them in the classroom but learning takes place after that once they begin to read and study on their own. The learning area of the future will be welcoming and warm to encourage learners to go inside and learn. There will be effective learning done in this area because there will be a lot of natural light in this room, natural light is said to reduce stress and elevates your mood. Learners in the future will be born into a world that surrounds them with technology, they can instant message someone while listening to music and speaking to someone in front of them, they are great multi taskers. So this learning area should allow them to do academic and recreational activities.

  132. EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES IN SCHOOLS OF THE FUTURE.

Laptops and computer desks in the classroom with internet access can be used for effective learning. With the use of laptops students can do presentations, using PowerPoint slides. This is better than using posters because it consume time. Learners can also use internet to access library catalogue or access licensed information products and web resources for their assignments. Students can also use their cell phones to access Google chart, blogs, face book or any other tools to discuss something outside the school. Inside school, they can use pc computers and they can also use laptops for group discussions during their spare time (breaks).students can update themselves about their assignment due date and the dates for the tests, lecture notes and record lecture with their cell phones. Implementing educational technologies in the classroom can be beneficial for 21centuary students, because they are interested on technologies. Most of the students spend much time using technologies and if it can be used in the classrooms, lesson will be effective. This can be a good idea, because they spend much time learning outside classroom by reading, exploring, creating, and communicating using technologies. Information common creates an environment that nurtures these activities by providing content in a variety of formats. Technologies that might not be affordable to individual students and spaces built to encourage collaboration and interaction. Teachers should change their teaching pedagogy (using textbooks) and use educational technologies such as videos in the classrooms to attract students and encourage group work using technologies. They should not forget that lesson is learner centered and they are facilitators. They should stop spending much time trying to write notes on the chalkboard but use screens and projectors. Educational technologies are the good tools to support transformation of learning. Technologies can also help in addressing diversity in the classroom, because learners have different learning styles. Eg: Visual learners (videos and pictures)

  133. In this stage and age we are living in, technology is not something you can ignore.
We use it in our everyday life. It is so part of our lives that i think most people do not even know how they will be able to live without it. The importance of technology in our lives has made it almost imposible for us not to use it in schools and as a learning tool. Technology is such a big part of our lives and the lives of the learners that we have to find fun and creative ways to incorporate it in our lives.

Everywhere that we go these days young children sit and walk everywhere with some form of technology in their pockets. The technology is growing so quicly that to keep up with its growth is hard enough, but for the learners of today it is part of their daily life. The learners know more about the latest technology then we as educators do. We as educators need to understand and notice that technology is such a huge oart of the learners life that we can not use it as a learning companion. Using technology in the classroom will make the learners more interested in the work or in the activity that they have to do. learners are no longer interested in the boring textbook provided by the school education system, but rather interested in the technology such as cellphones, playstations, ipods and computers.

The internet is also a big influence and source of information that is used, and finding information on the internet can be more of interest to the learner that reading a old textbook which was compiled by someone 10 years ago.

We as educators living in the 20th century should take the technology development into consideration and try and incorporate it into our classroom. Use it fun and exiting ways to incourage learning and the doing of classroom activities.

  134. I agree with what Refiloe said about the growing importance of technology. But we also need to understand that in the school environment, we can not ensure that students only use technology for educational purpose and not anything else. therefore, I personally agree that school need to limit the use of technology, mobile phone for example. By doing so, it is easier for schools to control and limit the use of technology.

Aangesien daar verskeie programme beskikbaar is.

  137. dear Hlengiwe
i also agree with you that, the use of technologies should be implimented so that learners will be able to relate to the outside world as you know that the outside world is surrounded by techology.however teachers need to undergo programmes that will help them improve their knowlegde in order to teach the learners to adapt to the new system of education.

    ReplyDelete

  140. I believe that ICT's are extremely important in a school. The reason for this is that not only do they give underprivileged learners the opportunity to learn about technology, but they also teach learners how to use technology safely and responsibly. I believe that learners should be taught with ICT's from the age of 13 because I believe that it is at this age that they become interested in computers and technology. It is better that they therefore learn in a controlled and supervised environment.

Teachers need to help learners with technology because those learners who do not have access to technology may get "left behind" in the real-world. It is therefore the responsibility of the school to ensure that learners are equipped with the appropriate knowledge before they leave school. Fortunate learners nowadays are aware of play station games, the internet, and cell phones from the ages of 7 and 8. These learners must be made of the dangers of such technology.

Teachers should give be able to teach learners about technology today from an educational perspective. This simply means that the learners should not be told to as they please with the technology at the school provided, as this would cause havoc at that school. Rather, learners should be taught from a prescribed curriculum which is well-planned and thought out by qualified professionals. Learners should be given assignments and tasks which should be supervised and completed in the classroom. Learners should not be trusted alone with the technological resources provided by the school.

It is important to remember, however, that while learners must learn about technology due to the growing demand in technological advances, the school should not forget that, at the end of the day, they are just children. They should still be given the opportunity to write on paper, colour and add without using a calculator; they should still be able to play in mud and get themselves dirty because one learns more outside the classroom than inside.

This by no means disregard technology in the classroom, I still firmly believe that technology should be a big part of a learners up-bringing. Technology in the classroom should just not limit the learners so that they feel confined to a classroom. They should also see what is out there in the real world.

  141. While many teachers are reluctant, at first, to make use if ict’s in their classroom, after some time they come to see the benefits of ict’s. ICT’s create many learning opportunities; these tools create rich and effective learning experiences.

However these experiences can only be created in spaces that have adaptable and engaging environments. Environments which encourage learning, meeting, exploring thinking and collaborating.

With the advancement of technology it is impossible for schools and teachers of the future not to make adjustments in the classrooms to facilitate educational technology tools.

The schools of the future need to have the following characteristics in order to use educational technology effectively:

    1. classroom space should be fluid so that it can accommodate different learning and teaching styles. This can be done by ensuring that the classroom space is used to its fullest potential as well as providing furniture that people can rearrange and tools that they can manipulate. Furthermore lectures and presentations areas should not to be restricted to the front of the room.
    2. Tools need to accommodate mobility of people and of information. A Design that assumes that all information or overhead projectors exists to one set point limits learning opportunities. Therefore arrangement of group furnishings, educational technology tools ,and activities should be in such a way that the teacher as well as the learners can move these devices to their desire and need.

    3. The classroom space should support teaching with digital media and digital design presentations. Information should also be displayed in various ways, either on the chalkboard, on whiteboards digitally , or even on T.V screens.

    4. Learners should have tables that facilitate computers or laptops.

    5. Learners should be allowed to use laptops and computers in the classroom for their work.

However it must be remembered that Technology should be integrated into the space to fluidly support learning, but recognize that it will not match the lifespan of the room. Technology tools should support human interaction; they should not become the centrepiece of the space.

    ReplyDelete
  142. ICT in future schools should be used as the source of collaboration and interation between the school curriculum and the students. Therefore ICT in the future schools can bring the authentic tasks in the classroom for an example a biology teacher may use the internet pictures and create game or activity for students to name the humanbody cell by doing that students will have more idea about the structure of the human cell.

ICT is a key part of the building school agenda and so the reshaping of the ICT infrastructure and services is equally as important in the future school.for example the computer lab as a part of the ICT facility, it should have furniture built to accomodate several people sharing a computer, provide a large tables and comfortable seating area. The facility ICT should incorporate classroom equipped with a variety of technologies including, computers, projectors, smartboards, video editting and videoconferencing capabilities.
Therefore, establishing an effective ICT outsourcing partnership to provide professional support is crucial in helping schools achieve their building school future vision. The future schools can use Digital cameras, which are commonly used in early year’s settings but the project refocused staff on using them for observation and assessment.

The ICT labs should support the cocurricular lives of students facility for example what it would take to invigorate the facility with new academic purpose architecture team, the lab as ameeting zone between the student and the school department curricular and the curricular, between work and play, the facility should communicate in its look and feel, that many types of use are acceptable it should telegraph a message of comfort and suitability at the same time invites socialbility, curiosity and creativity.

According to Tom MacEllistrim Achieving a desirable level of ICT usage in all schools depends on a number of critical, interconnected factors - teacher education and professional development to leverage the benefits of new learning technologies; the ready availability of appropriate digital content and content tools; sufficient computers and support ICT equipment in schools; adequate and robust broadband provision; technical support and maintenance of a high standard; structures to implement and support the investment; and support for effect-focused and learning age suitable ICT equipment.

It is recognised that schools will vary in their requirements for and expectations of ICT. To identify desirable baseline levels of ICT provision and equipment for schools, the strategy group recommends that schools adopt the recommended ICT configurations for the development of e-learning strategies and their future implementation. All classrooms should be networked to include between five and eight service points of access, with two at the teacher’s desk and four to six for the students. Ideally schools should work towards eventually having a 5:1 pupil teacher computer ratio in classrooms.

  143. In the future technologies can be used to improve the standard of the education system and improve how learners learn and how they adapt to the environment of the use of technology. The use of technological devices in education save time, it encourage globalisation, improves the knowledge capacity of the learners, buy the use of the I C T in schools it can improve the education system in a way that learners will be able to use what they have learn in school and apply it in the real world. By the implementations of the I C T in schools I also feel that learners need to be taught how to learn in the library and how they should use the information they got. Learners should be allowed to use computers their laptop in class room because it will save them time. I think that learners should be allowed to use cell phone in classes because it can improve their communication skills and it can improve their social well being among their peers.

The use of technological tool can even make things easier for both the educator and the learner. Learners and educators can use emails to communicate with each other and the can share information. As an educator in the making I think teachers should use computers to assess the learning and they should assess them base on the tool they have used. As we are leaving in the 21century the government should also take these issues into consideration that we need to improve the system of education by making the curriculum to be more relevant to the outside world. With technology learning can take place anywhere and anytime it does not have to be in the classroom it can be around the school. Learning commons need to be evaluated if they can suit the curriculum before they school can implement them

  144. I find that there is more talk of educational use of technology in classrooms than actual practice these days.

Not only does technology allow for interaction between students, it also encourages creative opportunities between relationships such as art, music and literature. it is said that multimedia classrooms help children move away from "chalk and talk" classrooms to more engaging and motivating processes which encourage higher order thinking. Teachers as well as students have seemingless unlimited resources through the internet, CD's and videos. Students and teachers can be taught to examine documents in different ways. Technology brings about unique capabilities to learning.

These may be a few of the pros but in my opinion, learners these days are so much more interested in the latest technology than actually being more concentrated on learning through the latest technolgy. Learners are becoming lazy and arent "thinking out of the box" as they can easily access the internet for anything needed.

ICT"s should be used where a lot of space is available. With the physical and psychological persepctives in mind. By making sure the setting is that of a social setting will influence learning like experiences. Supporting the latest tchnology is also important in creating a spacious learning area. The location should also be designed in such a way in which it can support a whole community of scholars in which all have access to exactly the same as the other.

In order to move forward, the work and learning of the learners needs to be inspired physically and intellectually.

  145. I agree with Byron's post as technology may bring about negative effects like I said learners are becoming lazy and not thinking or using their initiative. The fact that technology always needs to be updated is also true because it is essential that learners learning areas support the latest technology.

  146. I believe information commons technology is important in the development of schools for the future. Schools should move and keep up with technologies of today as children are ultimatley born into a world where technology is all around them and thus, should practice and use technology at school too - the development of technology is unstopable.

In order for ICT's to be implemented in the schools of the future, a considerable amount of money should be set aside by government to equip schools with the necessary equipment such as computers, laptops, overhead screens and projectors and white boards. If schools are fully equipped, it will encourage teachers to make class work and discussions far more interesting and topics will be tangable.

The space in the classroom needs to accomodate the forms of technology so that the latter is human-centred in design. Therefore, the classroom's physical space needs to accomdate technological change. For example, this can be incorporated by grouping desks and chairs for group work and each group is centred around a computer and white board. The teacher can then first explain, then the children can research using the computer and software and conclude their findings upon the white board as a presentation.

The aesthetics are also important in the ICT's used in the classroom. Children are drawn to colour and comfort thus, the classroom along with technologies should be designed in place with function, access and appeal in mind. The classrooms should be colourful and attractive in design and the technologies should be kept in place, neat and clean.

It is up to the government, schools, teachers and learners to obtain, impliment and funtionally use educational technologies within the classroom through the ideals of space in light of human-centred design and the accomodation of technology change; as well as through aesthetics that appeals to the learners and aids to the use of technologies.

  147. I agree with Liesl that technology is not coming, it is in fact here. Thus, teachers and learners should be encouraged to keep up the advances of technology especially within the educational sector and implement it throughout the different fields and subjects. It is important that learners get exposed to these technologies as they are ultimately living within the age of technology!

  150. I have to agree with what Carmen posted, technology, whether we like it or not is the way of the future. It is continously going to change and improve. Therefore, as future educators we should embrace this change and use it to our benefit and the benefit of our learners. It can be fun and exciting and if used correctly, technology can enhance learning in various ways.
I also agree that many schools do not fund ICT's as much as they should when really there is no excuse for this, students and staff can get together and raise funds or appeal to sponsors in their area. ICT's are definitely something educators should be striving towards.

  153. In my opinion technology can be a very effective manner to promote education and enhance the students learning capability however the implementation of technology can be rather difficult, educators and learners should encourage learners to become familiar with technology from an early age as it may be possible to implement it at a later stage but can also be difficult.
The implementation and execution of technology will not only benefit a learner in the school environment but will also allow the learner to use the skills mastered in the work environment one day. It is essential for every learner to be able to use and be familiarised with technology.
By allowing learners to engage with technology learning becomes more fun and the learner’s attention becomes more focussed on a particular task.
Technology can be of a great advantage if it is executed and monitored effectively and the only manner for this to be done is if the educators embrace technology with an open mind. Thereafter both the educators and learners will reap the benefits of educational technology.

  154. I completely agree with Mabjala’s comment, made on the 19th March at 5:56am. He mentions how teachers should not be replaced by educational technologies but instead become mediators and guide learners to use educational technology this is completely true, because at times we may have the best technology present in a classroom and it can be constructed and designed in the best and most sophisticated way possible but if the components of collaboration and direct human interactions and connections are missing all these technologies will fall apart. If a teacher does not present the information provided by these educational technologies in an appropriate way the technology has no use in education.

  155. Dear Hanita

I understand the need to create an environment suitable for learners to enhance their learning ability however schools cannot focus their attention to create an environment that will accommodate all the learners that attend the school as learners have different means of acquiring knowledge. It will be rather difficult to create a setting that will benefit all learners.

Not all learners are able to learn in an informal setting. For example some students can learn in an informal environment whereas others are only able to learn in a classroom where an educator is the facilitator and delivers a lesson.

I agree that the use of technology from an early age allows learners to become more advanced and multi-tasking is a unique skill the can be obtained and able to benefit the learners not only academically but in other aspects of their life.

However a school is a place where learners come to acquire knowledge and allowing learners to combine academic and recreational activities can be dangerous. The most effective manner to execute this is to be able to balance time for academic and recreational activities. If there is no balance there is no guarantee that academic aspects will be considered more important than recreational aspects.

  157. The use of technology in the classroom for the future should be based upon group activities so that students can learn with one another through social constructivist learning and they can be educated through their desired forms of learning such as auditory, visual and tactile forms. This can be done by fitting large computer screens in classrooms so pupils can all see the computer media at the same time or by assigning groups in the class and providing them each with different forms of technology. ITCs should be mediated by the educator and thus become a hands on activity in which learners can complete practicals in the classroom, as well as multi task with a rage of social and academic activities. Technology must be able to address all the pupils’ needs such as internet access, access to data/journal bases and a wide variety of software. Students must also be able to access information, produce and supervise it; this can be ensured by implementing technology in the classroom such as computers, overheads, laptops and smart boards. In the classroom conversation should also be encouraged so pupils can learn from one another and can discuss the purpose and use of the technology that they are using, thus ITCs should be used to integrate learning. The design of a classroom should foster the desire to make use of technology so there should be comfortable work stations, with adequate equipment and space that doesn’t limit pupils’ resources such as one another and the technology available to them. Different aspects in the classroom should be considered when implementing technology in the classroom such as desirable lighting, the environment should be inviting; you could have posters in the classroom, computers with earphones for auditory learning and wireless internet so pupils can use their own computers. Therefore technology in the classroom for the future should ultimately be based upon the learner’s social and academic needs and to a great extent it should be based upon group activities.

  158. I agree with Latoya the implementation of ICT’s in classrooms requires a lot of space because devices such as computers and projectors require an adequate amount of space in order to function to the best of its capability. I also feel that the physical as well as intellectual side of learners need to be enhanced because learners will gain more knowledge in a bigger learning area as they will have more space to interact with classmates and learning occurs best in a social setting. ICT’s encourage social discussions through the use of technological devices in the classroom therefore the space in which the ICT’s are being put into practice is of utmost importance

  159. The implementation of technology can be benefitiary to SOuth African education because since most of the learners today are exposed to the technology so it is going to be easy for them to engage and even at work is going to help them, the use of computers or laptops will make learners to be active and contribute, schools should have such technological equipments. As a teacher i must try to make use of technology in good way to make learners gather and understand coming information. This means that the usesage of computers can be for groupwork discussion. This enables learners to work anytime, everywhere - some can work chatting at the same time, some talking on their cell phones and some listening music.

The use of ICT in the classroom increases the importance of virtual learning environment, those learners who learn best through seeing are accommodated, those who learn best through listening are welcome as well because there will be audios and practical clips. computers and mobile devices have a great potential to enhance and transform learning because they can be used to take notes. The computer discussion interfere with making eye contact so it help learners to express their view on their computers.

The access of I-net will help collaboration in classroom, explore the discussion with peers onlinedesign projects, working together on a substansive issues and social networking. this support creativity and increases the speed and ease to learn.

The above mentions concepts about educational technologies are the that can be used by me as a teacher to create a deep and active learning in the classroom as this will cause learners to adapt easily when they go to further thir studies and work.

  160. How should ICTs be used in the schools of the future?

It is without a doubt that the children today are growing in the technological laden world where technology is constantly advancing and is part of their everyday life. Many learners use technology are as tools for entertainment and as communication channels with family and friends. All the more reason why technology should be incorporated into school curriculums.

The use of educational technologies can be utilized to enhance learning and stimulate learners in ways that would bring a world of information at their disposal to make learning more interesting, stimulating and productive as possible. Through the use of computer, programs, internet, smart boards, laptop, touch pads, etc, we can revolutionalize the more traditional teacher centered learning into more learner centered learning. The use of educational technology will also provide and contribute to reform by creating a culture that supports learning both in the classroom and beyond the school walls. Teachers can create chat rooms, websites, links on mixit , facebook, etc, where learners will be able to access different information about their school work outside school premises and after school hours. This will create relationship among learners and teachers and learners will have support in their learning.
Educational technologies can be used to promote collaborative and social learning which according to learning theories is the best way people learn, thus the concept of collaborative learning space arises. Learning space in a computer lab for instance should be designed in a way that it is flexible and adaptable to learner needs. Space should be able to cater to different learner activities such as individual work, group work, class work, etc. The learning space should also be an area with comfortable and movable furniture, movable white board orientated to suit different class room settings. It is quite essential that learning space does not get monotonous but learners are encouraged to be autonomous in the learning space.

However I do not think that she spoke about how you can implement technology in your classroom in the future. 162. Dear Lethie
I fully agree with your view, educational technologies in schools does create new opportunities for learning.
Learners in my view will work harder when greater opportunities are given to them.
and the part were you say that teachers should give learners practical work to ensure learners survive in their field of work in the future is true.
This will make learners fitter for the job of there choice. The example of the assignment will work perfectly.

  163. The use of ICT in schools will help learners greatly prepare for the vast and ever changing world of work which constantly uses technology to improve working standards, because ICT is costly schools need to be financially well managed so that funds can be made available for the installation of ITC.
Technology can move students from the traditional style of learning and put them in tune with a more engaged way of learning where learners actually participate in the lesson and give input by using technology such as podcast, blogs and e-mail discussions. Learners will be able to access the most current information available and have some control over what they learn and how they choose to demonstrate their learning.
This will make the learning experience enquiry based and also allows learners to keep up to date with the trends of information using technology.

Information communication technology will not only equip learners for the outside world of work and higher education, but it will have an impact on their lives on a personal scale. Learners who are able to use technology efficiently will have little difficulty adapting to the changing world using technology in their homes and work. Technology use enable people to better connect with the outside world, therefore it will allow people to communicate on a regular basis despite the distance between them and socialization has been viewed as another form of learning as people can pass and share information with each other. The fact that people will be communicating means that they will be keeping up with what is happening in the world around them in terms of political, financial and current events that affect humans as a whole, enabling them to plan ahead and better prepare for change in the future.

  166. How ICTS should be used in the future schools

ICTS it has to be used in the future schools because, if we can examine the whole world we can easily perceive and understand that everything in this world is about technology, but if we can take our mind back in the 20th century things at schools were not the same as it is today there is a big/huge change because of technology, this technology it was there in the 20th century but it has been updated.
In other for technology to be used in schools the government have to make sure that they donate money in schools, because technology it cannot be used if there is no money, so in future the government have to make sure that they implement technology in schools. libraries they have to be used in the future schools in this way, in the libraries they have to be computer and they must install soft ware that can help student search for different things in the library e.g. information, the other thing is that libraries have to be updated so that they can become information commons in the future schools. This it will definitely help the student to be familiar soft ware, hard ware and networking configuration. If ICTS can be used in the school it will help the student to work and perform well academically. They have to plan and information common in schools so that it can help student to develop a vision related to learning learners will be able to set up their own goals, it will also help the teachers to set up learning assessment plans. The old computer lab has to be renovated, as the computer lab is renovated it will help the school to communicate easily and collaborate to the curriculum activities supported in the school premises.
Student will be able to chart on cell phones and they will also know how to work on computers and lap top. They will also know how to use internet effectively

  167. Technology in the classrooms of the future…

Technology has become part of our everyday life and our classrooms needs to be implemented with technologies. The information common is a great idea of implementing our schools with technology because it addresses the needs of the students, bringing together technology, content and services in a physical space that results in an environment different from that of a typical library.

The use of ICT is recommended in our schools because it welcomes students to access large files, such as multimedia, or offer an alternative to wireless when the network becomes saturated at peak use times. Another major difference between an information commons and traditional libraries is the way in which they accommodate groups. Traditional libraries have focused on providing quiet space for individual study. Some information commons have vision or mission statements that directly address the relationship between the commons and the learning mission of the university.

But in doing this schools need to train educators because this needs highly competent assistants to help the learners, information commons enhances learning in a way that students get to learn in a lot of different ways. Students get to be involved in school work using the internet for example accessing journals licensed by the library, using art image collections, writing papers, editing videos for course projects, or accessing assignments through a course management system.

This would be a great way to enhance learning in our future classrooms but where will our schools get money for this? But I am thinking... it’s high time our government gave more attention to our schools. Our schools also need to use money accordingly and raise funds so that the schools can be implemented with technologies...

  168. If I may pose a question to you Jackie, if you found an easier and more effective technique for completing your tasks in an interesting way, at halve the time and much more less effort would you not consider adopting that technique? I bet your answer is as good a mine,” Yes, you would”. This is what technology is offering us as future educators. The world is dynamic and nothing stays the same forever so is the world of technology. If we want to keep going back to traditions that do not benefit us in the present time we are depriving ourselves and our learners the opportunity of being among the best countries in terms of prosperity and economic well being if we do not equip our future adults of the necessary skill they will need to survive in the world out there. The use of technology should not be view as replacement of the traditional ways of teaching but should be viewed as a "tool" that enables students to achieve more "polished" work that is more valuable to the students and allow student’s access to tools that professional's use in the real world. Technology helps u bring into the classroom what tradition cannot even begin to deliver. Technology allows us to teach abstract concept though video clips, films, documentaries, etc in more concrete ways to our learners to make learning much more interesting and more meaning full. As far a I am concerned traditional ways of teaching have only been more focused on rote learning and memorization as opposed to the new ways which focus on helping learners developing skills that enable them to think creatively and critically thus constructing their own learning.

  169. I feel that ICT's should be implemented in schools because it will enhance the learning experience of the learners. It is important in the growth of schools as it will keep learners interested. Schools should be fully equipped with devices such as projectors, white boards and computers. It can be introduced in the classrooms through the use of computers in classrooms as well as internet. The internet is a fun and easy way in which students prefer to learn. Students learn better by teaching them in a way which is appealing to them. Therefore using modern technology will attract learners to coming to class daily. The size of the area in which ICT’s are used is of vital importance because learners require a sufficient amount of space to learn in and also the devices being introduced in the classrooms need a satisfactory amount of space to function appropriately, for example an over head projector needs space in order to be used to the best of its capability. ICT’s promote interaction amongst learners by enriching the learners and creating an environment where social interaction can occur freely. ICT’s is a great way of mediating learning and it is easy to use in classrooms. The use of ICT’s require a lot of money to be put into action in our South African schools, however in the future with the correct funding and appropriate devices it is possible for ICT’s to be introduced into all our schools to make education fun and fulfilling for all learners.

  172. Although there has been a strong push to get educational technology into the hands of teachers and students, many obstacles to implementation still exist. Equipment may not be placed in easily accessible locations. Hardware and software often pose problems for teachers in the classroom, and just-in-time technical support may be unavailable. Teachers may lack the time and the motivation to learn technology skills. Professional development activities may not provide ongoing, hands-on training for teachers or practical strategies for implementing technology into lesson plans. Initial technology funding may not be sustained and thus not capable of providing upgrades, maintenance, and ongoing professional development. Fortunately, these obstacles can be addressed and overcome. This Critical Issue provides practical information for promoting technology use in schools.

Access to technology is an important issue for teachers and students. Although schools may have computers available, one factor that determines their use is where those computers are located. If computers are connected to the Internet but are not in a convenient location, the availability to students and teachers will be limited. To make the best use of limited connections and equipment, schools can explore various strategies for allocating computers.

  175. There is quite a lot of emphasis on higher education and improving the technology available to today’s
tertiary students. But somehow, along the way, primary and secondary schools are being overlooked. This
could be attributed to the fact that higher education, even when Government subsidised, is expensive, so
universities need to be competitive and offer high quality facilities, in order to attract students to their
institutions. When students choose which universities to apply to, their decision is usually influenced by
what the university can offer in quality of education and facilities, as well as reputation and track-record.
Parents typically select private schools for the same reasons – quality, facilities and esteem. That is fine
for the more affluent of our society, but what about those who cannot afford a private school education for
their children? With state-run primary and secondary schools, proximity is the key factor. Most children
attend state schools in their immediate vicinity, close to where they live or where their parents work. As a
result, the majority of school children are restricted in the quality of education they can receive, being
dependant on the funding available for their particular school.

a library catalogue, student computer laboratories and some teaching. However, these networks can also be used to support children and their teachers in an inconspicuous and unobtrusive way. Using current
technology, As long as every child has access to a networked computer, this innovation is possible.
Students can be given unique network profiles, allowing them to be identified and to access their own
specific settings, designed to suit their individual needs. Relevant information preferences will be stored in the system. Mobility is essential, so the system must ensure that the information moves with the child. Each child will have a personal, mobile, virtual helper, which will always be on hand when needed.

Taking consideration to the current generation, how they are so technologically minded, and the portable technology devices they are always carrying in their pockets clearly shows passion towards technology. I love the idea of taking advantage of that by introducing technology in the classroom. However it will be convenience for learning and teaching in schools if classes are well equipped by technology. For instance if a teacher remind learners of assignment due date via sms, no learner has an excuse of forgetting to do the assignment, this may eliminate silly arguments in class.

  180. True, Maria. A lot of the students enjoy using technology so why don't we use what they enjoy to help them understand better? I think this students will perform at their best if they are able to use what they enjoy to learn. Is that not what attention focusing is about? It is amazing how many of the teenagers learn a song from beggining to end and yet find it difficult to learn small amount of theory. Maybe the reason is that they enjoy the songs which makes them find it easy to learn them. Maybe if our students find the content they are supposed to learn as interesting as the songs they learn then they will perform at their best. Well, traditional ways of doing things is not only out of fashion but a waste of time and effort to get those tasks correct. Think about seaching for books in the library to do an assignment. That is a waste of time and energy. Internet does things faster and more effective. Technology is the in thing, fosho!

  182. The aim is to bridge the gap between the outside world and the classroom. Learners are exposed to different technological tools on a daily basis. From cell phones to computers and the internet therefore these tools should be used in the classrooms to enhance learning. the use of technology in the classroom will not only help learners but teachers as well in the sense that they will have more than one resource to use in the classroom to think and come up with authentic learning tasks for the learners. We live in a world where we are able to access information anytime, anywhere therefore a teachers we must come up with trends and styles and the necessary space to develop learning in a more technological and modern world. As much we want to focus on technology as a learning tool. There are other things that we can achieve with it as well-social interaction between learners and educators. Learners and educators can use blogs, text chatting services to engage with each other on an academic and social level. Topics can be discussed on such tools and information can be shared, research ideas and topics can be shared and the educator can create activities which learners can do using technology in any subject.

The idea is to enhance learning not replace it. I think it’s also important to keep the traditional ways of learning. The physical searching of books at the library, going to excursions, to physically experience things and also the blackboard and chalk learning. I think those are some of the traditional ways of teaching and learning that might be replaced by learning; we should try to integrate the traditional teaching and learning method with the new modern and technological methods. Therefore the implementation of ICT should be considered carefully and planned carefully as well.

We should look at what we don’t have and how we can improve it with technology and try to create the necessary space and environment for the implementation. Learners I believe should get the best of both worlds- traditional and technological.

I love your point of view towards technology, it really ruin the notion of learning. If you are an English educator, you ask learners to write assays using MS word how are you going to know if they have accurate spelling skill as MS word will do all the fixing of spelling error for them. it will be great to look the idea of technology in class on the negative and positive angles of teaching.

  184. How should ITC’s be used in the class of the future?

  185. How should ICTs be used in the schools of the future?

It is very difficult to explain exactly how ICT should be used in the schools of the future because information technology is broad and it is constantly changing. The one thing that must remain in the schools is the continuous training of the teachers on the latest update of technology. After all technology in schools will be used by the teachers to improve their teaching. If the teacher chooses not to use technology in their teaching then it is up to that teacher to find some or other creative way to ensure that he/she keeps the students interested in his/her subject. Technology in schools is all about improving the teaching and the learning of the students.

Think about the learning commons. That is just the improvement of learning space to help the students to perform learn and perform better. That is all about attention focusing .We are trying to make our students enjoy learning and being taught. There are many ways of making learning enjoyable besides changing our learning space to include computers and other things of comfort like movable furniture. It is all up to the teacher to decide what best to use to ensure that the students enjoy his or her subject and find it interesting to study.

It can take something as simple as powerpoint presentation to improve teaching and learning. After all learning commons do not guarantee that all students will be interested in learning. What about those who are pushed by discomfort to learn? Eating in the learnimg commons might reduce their concentration and interest to learn.

I am not saying that learning commons do not work .I am saying that these commomns will work for most people but it is difficult to get the best learning space for each of us individually. We are all different.Yes the learning commons can be rearranged to suit immidiate preference of the individuals using that space at that moment. Can the space be painted pink to suit the immidiate preference of someone who wants to study in space that has pink all round at that time?

  186. Information and communications technology is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning.
ICT can allow learners to participate in a rapidly changing world in which learning and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technologies.
Learners and teachers can use ICT tools to find, explore, analyze, exchange and present information responsibly and without discrimination. It can be also employed to give learners and teacher quick access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures. Coming to the question of how can the information communication technology be used in the schools of the future. Since we all learn best in different ways, I think the use of ICT in the classroom would be very beneficial to learners because it will enhance their learning and understanding. Some learners learn best by seeing things, some learn best by hearing and others learn best by touching or experiencing things, therefore i think that the use of ICT in school should be compulsory in all schools because that way all the learners will be accommodated, unlike the culture of learning whereby all learners must listen to the teacher.

  187. ICT can also be very useful to the teachers too, for example mathematics’ teacher can make a video of her/him self doing the calculations, then borrow it to the learners so that they could watch it at home. They can also use cell phones and computers to communicate with learners during weekends and holidays

  188. Taking what is new(technology) and collabarating it with education is going to take learning to the next level, watch the space.
I think that ICT should be used in schools because this will give learners the opportunity to explore different learning methods.ICT could help to ensure learners participate in a forever changing world in which learning is an activity that needs the right mind set of an individual. There are many other ways of making the learning process enjoyable besides having a learning space that deals with computers. The tools that i recommend that should be used in the classroom environment is should be cell phones. why do i give cell phones as an example, its because pupils that are in schools are more involved and they use their phones for mixit and teachers could do group work with the mixit tool. for example give an activity in groups for the pupils to do and make them use multimix and make the group leader save this to their gallery and then assess this using a rubric that you as the educator set out for the learners.
I think that ICT will assist in learning and understanding. so to conclude my view on ICT in a school situation is needed to help learners increase their different learning styles and excel in education.

i fully agree with you that while using internet and other technological tools for teaching and learning we should not forget about consalting the textbook or using the choakboard. We should use them both becuase the aim to enhance learning.

  190. According to my point of view: as a learner with knowledge of ICTs. ICTs can defiantly brighten the future in schools in different ways. ICTs can be used in schools of the future in so many ways concerning education improvement and the process of learning in schools. ICT as a smarter and quicker way of learning will shape learners in terms of gaining more knowledge, able to think out of the box, open-mindedness and skills as well. Can improve the quality of teaching, learning and management in schools and so help raise standard. The style of learning will be change, new strategies of teaching will be formulated- that will catches learner’s attention it must be flexible keep learners focus not get sleepy during the lesson. ICTs will be the best in schools for future bring equipment such as TVs, Cell phones, MP3s, Laptops and so forth in the classroom and make things practically. During lesson the usage of technology will empower learning to the extent that learners will be exposed in usage of technology and know exactly how to use it effective, so that when they are in the workplace they will not experiencing problems concerning educational technology.

In future learners will not experiencing problems because in schools technology will play a very crucial role to assist the curriculum to be fast and effective. Internet and TV, both has a wealth of information and resources for both new experienced teachers, including curriculum based programmes for use in the classroom. New technology that being used its helps a lot inside and outside the schools as all information is useful regardless you got it outside or inside the school. The reality is that growing levels of investment in educational ICT provision has meant that schools are faced with rapidly changing, and increasingly complex, technological challenges. Therefore, establishing an effective ICT outsourcing partnership to provide professional support is crucial in helping schools achieve.

  191. I agree with Rochelle in the idea of fund raising and we could also add to this sponsors (a need for improvement in a community and school, people with the funds can invest in a better future.), the reason for this is that the government does not have the funds for innovative education, they might be able to subsidise it but that will be it, so the educators and school will in turn have to be creative and take initiative. All of this can be possible but first a whitepaper, then approval and then the task may start, planning is of high importance and it takes time, change is good but is rarely accepted immediately. Then the space we have is hardly ever suitable for the changes that need to take place, and this is why planning is so very important.

  192. Information and communication technologies are of great importance to the future of education. One has to bear in mind that ICT brings about the opportunity for the following:

Increasing access through long distance learning and for everyone- ICT provides new and meaningful ways to bring educational opportunities to everyone in class. This means that all the students including those that were excluded in the past e.g. rural areas. Students will through ICT in classroom have the opportunity to do their assignments at home and also have the pleasure and the opportunity to discuss the assignment on a blog or even mxit or face book.

Enabling a knowledge network for students
Because not all students are exposed to computers and not all have expensive and up to date cellphones, introducing them to technological aspect in class will ensure have the capabilities to survive in class and at a later stage in the world as a whole. One has to remember that technology is the way things are and therefore students need to be comfortable with such factors for the world.

    Training teachers
The use of ICTs can help in meeting teacher training targets. Moreover, ICTs provide opportunities to complement on the job training and continuing education for teachers

We all know that ICT means that Information and communication technologies. The question is should these aspect be included into a classroom environment. Will this aspect be a pro or a con? It is pretty obvious to one that they can become both.
In one way introducing and promoting that student should use their computers and their cell phone could mean that students are more comfortable and therefore perform at their at most best. But students being students might abuse the power of having the right of using their computers and cell phones to complete their homework’s.

This brings me to the conclusion that as much as we need technologies to be introduced in classrooms the teacher should try to mediate the lesson in a sense that students realise that their lesson is not based on the technologies but rather their ability to use the technologies

i would like to disagree with you whe oyu say that schools should be built and structured in the way that will promote the usage of information and communication technology.ICT can be used regardless of the school structure becuase it icludes amongs others the use of cellphones and internet which has nothing to do with the structure of schools. however. i agree with you that while using it,school that are very poor should be taken into account

  194. In today`s world technology is of greater use in our life, both in informal and formal education. Apart from making the way of communicating easier, it makes life to be faster and in the case of a classroom environment, it makes the life of a learner to be more realistic ad practical. Society has found ways to communicate throughout history, traditional to modern way. In modern days, we have cell phones, e-mail, radio, television and friend-finding Web sites. And while I understand how important technology has become, my issue with it is how the generations before the “Net Generation” are adapting to the new forms of communication.
The internet has become the main source of research in the school environment where in learners can hardly go to libraries in the case of needing information. I suggest that students can use internet as far as they can but we as educators should look on the bad results we could face. If the learner is going to make an assignment, must make a research on the net but also contribute by using his own imagination. Cell phones plays a very vital role in the case of ICT because students can get their information via text messaging and email s which a shortcut of misunderstandings and students missing activities. The only bad effect that the cell phones will have is when students start to chat in the classroom using mxit, face book e.t.c. because it disrupt the classroom and learners lose their knowledge of spelling and grammar.

Finally I would suggest that schools should have internets and technology related teachers that will help the learners with mastering the computer. Technology should be used in future schools but no cell phones communication must be allowed in the classroom.

As improve the quality of learning, teaching and management as well. It also helps raise the standard of education. Education technology will always the best in schools!!!!!!!!!!

  196. To Sifaniso, although these technological aspect may be hard to implement. The need for them is very important hence the wait is worth due to the fact that whether we like it or not people or learners rather need technology to survive the world.

As for teachers they have to be trained to be able to use technology communication aspects because they are the key to improvement.

  197. according to me as proffessional educator, ithink using ICT at school is more important because to me,it seems as we moving from 'educator centric' to personalised 'learners centric'in education, which is more stimulating and strengthens motivetions.so as educators its vital to make sure that learners have the access of computers at school sothat can make learning easier for them, they must remember that everything this days it has to do with technology so learners need to know that knowledge of computers.
on the other hand, the next generation learning right now recognising ICT excellence in school.i strongly believe that is because of using ICT in school is more productive than using the old method of teaching.educator need to create interactive resource for ICT which aimed at stimulating learners imiginations, enhancing their creativity and making the life of the educator easier.

by looking at the disadvantages of ICT in education,is that ICT has not realised its full potential, for the reason that many educators lack the necessary training or flexibility of approach, and that learners should be encouraged to use software that is part of an integrated dynamic learning programme, tailored to thier stage, ability and needs.
so,in conclusion all schools should be able to use ICT as an important tool of productive learning worldwide.

  199. to Gorgeous, i totally agree with you in the idea you posed. by stating that a learner that is exposed to technology has a better chance in the outside world. to put in plain english the world we live in is based mainly on technological things therefore the knowledge of such aspect will only put you in better places when it comes to the coparate world and bare you in mind thats the world we live in.

  200. Information communication technology will equip learners for the outside world of work and higher education, but it will have an impact on their lives on a personal scale. By making effective use of ICT, it is possible to create a step-change in the educational outcomes of learners. This is only feasible if ICT is integral to the education vision for the school of the future and it is important to understand the impact of ICT. By making ICT integral to everything that happens in the schools of the future it can: Enable and support the remodeled school workforce; enable and streamline knowledge management within schools and between schools moreover, enable and enhance Interaction with parents and the local community and extend teaching and learning opportunities; for instance by Allowing learning to take place 'anytime-anywhere' but particularly e-learning beyond traditional school hours and premises.
ICT solutions to meet the needs of the wide variety of stakeholders involved in a school of the future. The implementation of an ICT strategy and solution for a school starts with the introduction of a stakeholder board and the commencement of the change management plan. Schools control their own budgets but their spending on ICT divides into what they have to do and what they elect to do. Therefore whoever is in charge of implementing the ict in schools should have a good financial sense.
Despite the financial strait implementing itc in schools might have on the schools budget, it is important for the learners so they are equipped with the necessary computer and technological skills needed in the real world outside of school. Learners will be able to use this to keep up with the advancement in technology in their personal and professional lives.
